Howdy, need a little help

Did a complete site check on SRS but nothing helped so...

1997 Spyder...stock...great condition

Just finished some pretty normal work in the steering column to replace the turn signal switch. Went by the tech order...
1. Disconnected battery
2. Unremarkable air bag & steering wheel removal
3. Replaced switch
4. Reset the spring mechanism...tighetened clockwise then counter-clockwise 3 & 1/8 turns...centered markers
5. Steering wheel & air bag replaced

The SRS light came on and stayed on...hooked up the OBDII and it passed all codes...as in nothing to report. Went ahead and did a "clear" but still no love...the light is still on. Any ideas?

SRS has nothing to do with obdII codes so you wont get any indication of the problem. I dont think my snap on scanner reads SRS even. Dealer only i am pretty sure.

BTW the clock spring in nothing more than wire coiled inside so it can be rotated so that isnt your issue.

That's what I was afraid of. The other posts I read ended up going to the dealer but they hadn't discussed OBDII possibilities. Please note I checked the back-up light fuse (apparently an occasional contributor to SRS irritations) and the battery was disconnected before and after the job to clear any residual anomalies.

I will connect my scanner to my car and see if it read the srs system. If it does (since there have been updates to the system since i last checked) then any shop with an up to date scanner should be able to but you can count on autozone not being able to.

Are you sure you plugged the air bag back in? if there was no light before you did your work but there is a light now then it must be a small issue. Re-check your work. To clear an SRS light you need a computer to do it. Now some guys have reported leavign the airbag module disconnected for 1 day will clear it, I have no idea on that. Disconnecting the airbag module will sht the light off if that is all you are concerned with.
