#122802, "Speedometer only working sometimes"

I've searched a bunch of threads where people's speedometers stopped working and the advice is normally to check the speed sensor on top of the transmission. But my speedometer and odometer work, but only occasionally. According to the odometer its worked for about 3 miles out of the last probably 50 since it stopped working. It worked before i left for a month on vacation and when I got back it just stopped working. When it works, the speedometer reading is correct and everything. Could it still be the speed sensor or could it be a problem with the gauge cluster?

Usually the wear and tear items are what die... the speed sensor has a plastic ring inside... check that to see if its damaged. You remove it, stick your finger in to feel if the plastic white ring is still intact. If it is, spin the speed sensor by hand to see if the speedo moves and watch the gauge.
