Everyone says that the limit is set by the ECU at 7,200. But for some reason, I have hit 7,300. When I got my car dynoed, it went all the way to 7300, and thats where the needle stops on my tach. But it is in that general area.

The redline starts on 7000rpm if you have a manual transmission or 6500rpm if you have an automatic.

He said where the redline STARTS at...Meaning where the gauge is literally red in color. Like the 5 speed redline is 7000 but the rev limiter is 7300.

Wait, your rev-limiter kicks in at 3k, or 4k? If it won't let you go above 4k RPM's, replace your MAP sensor, or check the wiring that goes to it.

You totally got scammed. There is something wrong with the car that they were too ignorant (or cheap) to fix. There is no way to modify the rev limiter on these cars as they come from the factory. As was mentioned, start by checking out the MAP sensor on the intake plenum. When facing the windshield, it's the little, black boxy sensor on the far left end of the intake manifold. Two screws from the top will get it out. It could be clogged up with shit or something like that.

Do you have any CEL codes? What year is this car?

One other thing you might want to check is the throttle cable to make sure it is adjusted right. If it has to much slack in it, it may not be opening the throttle all the way. emoji
