#122569, "condition of car?"

Ive got a friend who owns a 99 oz ralley gs. I took a look at it today for him because it was smoking bad and he's going through a quart of oil a month. The car starts up and idles fine but once it warms up it starts to kinda bog down and idle funny it idles steadly (rpm wise) at about 800 but the idle is up and down by sound only. rpms stay the same.car steadly smokes Blueish smoke.
funny thing is i did a compression check and got 200 200 195 200
when i pulled out the plug in the third cyl i got smoke comming out of the plug hole??? i know this usually means a broken ringland but how would the cyl hold compression? to me compression test was fine.
also i scanned his ecu and only got 1 code p1443? this has something to do with evap but im sure it wouldnt cause his idle issue, i checked for worn plugs bad wires vacume leaks everything was fine. Basically the car is being a dsm, it runs great but has some kinda weird issue that i cant figure out? any body got any ideas? i thought maybe timing was off but that would throw a code if it was off more than two teeth and if it wasent i dont think it would idle this was and smoke. Also the oil is not dripping out of the car so its getting burnt up somewhere? headgasket appears to be ok, no oil/water mixture and coolent never needs filling? any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated in this matter

My first inclination with an EVAP code and burning oil is a bad PCV valve, wouldn't it be nice if it were that easy emoji Could be valve seals, that would have nothing to do with compression and would still allow oil into the cylindar. If it blew smoke out of #3 cylindar (your friend must have shit a little when he saw that) then it could be something as simple as the engine stopped just so on a power stroke that none of the valves had opened to let the smoke out, that's kinda a freak incident but means nothing in the long run. Blue smoke is definately oil, you're right there, but if he's going through a quart a month I'd expect to see some sort of fouling of the spark plugs or something, or a nice pan gasket leak in conjunction with this. What condition were the spark plugs, they are gold when it comes to diagnosing engines.

plugs were all in good condition however they were all whiteish to me it looked as if the car was running lean, however i know the issue is not related to a misfire or a code would be thrown. Let me ask you this if there were bad valve guide seals than would it effect compression in anyway? also would a bent valve cause a change in compression? sorry if these are dumb questions im just stumped on this cause i couldnt believe his compression numbers were so high and the car was idling like crap. Also pvc valve was changed and he did mention to me that cyl #3 smoked before when he removed the plug?
thanks for your input though

a leaky valve seal should have limited to no impact on compression readings, as the valve is closed as the cylindar builds compression and the seal is above the cylindar. A bent valve will most assurdely have a dramatic impact on compression readings as it will prevent the valve from closing and thus prevent the cylindar from building compression. If you were burning copius amounts of oil, I would figure you would see a carbon deposit on at least one of the valves. With the engine running, pull the oil fill cap off and watch to see how much smoke comes out, is there a large amount of smoke coming out of the valve cover like this? Does he have any oil leaks?

no oil leaks that i know of, i didnt test while the car was running with the oil cap off but i will do and i tested it while running with dipstick out and no smoke? would bad valve guide seats cause the idle issue, i know it will cause the oil consumption and smoking but what about the idle? when the car idles rough the smoke comes out in puffs but when idling normally it just smokes, also if you gun it it doesnt smoke, and if you run the ac it idles better and smokes less???? if that helps??

whats the pipe between the intercooler and turbo look like on the inside? How much shaft play do you have? You're burning oil for sure, and I think it's valve seals, but might as well check the turbo bushings too. Of course the engine idles better with the A/C on, the ECU kicks it up to compensate. Pretty soon here you're going to want to check out that O2 sensor as well, burning oil will make that guy pretty dirty and foul it.
