Recently I have been having a problem mostly when the car was hot of the starter not working when I hit the switch. However if I jumped a wire from the battery to the silonoid the starter would work and start the car. I was going to buy a new starter and pulled mine off and decided to dismantle it to see if I could find something wrong before I took it in for a core. What I found was when I removed the screws from the silonoid and pulled it apart was that the assembly inside had no grease or lubrication left at all. It was all dried up. So I thought to give it a shot and cleaned it out and lubed it up with some Hi temp wheel bearing grease. The result is a starter that has not failed to engage by the switch for a month now saving me the cost of a new starter. I have read on here of several others having this problem so I would be interested to know if this is the cause of the problem. I figure where I have a header and its so close to the starter it simply cooked all the grease in there? I hope this info can help some of you.
