#121997, "Need help... car won't start..."

Hey guys, been a LONG time since ive posted... probably because my car was treating me fine for a while... well, as we all know, that doesnt last very long, so here's my story.

Just recently, my car has been having a hard time starting. I would turn the key, and the engine wouldnt crank. I could hear the fuel pump prime, and then nothing. I would do this a couple of times, and then the car would eventually start. After about 3 days of this, I get in my car and nothing. I dont even hear the fuel pump fire up.

So now im stuck. Could it be the fuel pump (or any other) relays? when a relay goes out, is it like a fuse, where it will not even allow a current to go through? Or can a relay be going bad and then eventually die?

if not the relay? could it be the fuel pump itself? the problem is, i have an upgraded inline fuel pump from my turbo days. the pump has been fine as well as the car, to my knowledge.

when i do the keydance, i get 55,55... so that doesn't help much.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because its my only car, and i have no other way to get to work.

If its a 95, check the ECU with a known good one.

I had this problem a while back... the ECU in my car is relatively new. I had to have it replaced about 2 years ago. so im thinking that the ECU should be ok.

But i will have that looked at if at all possible. I moved to Irvine, so my resources are limited.

Irvine, you're still So-Cal, that's just a hop-skip-and a jump away from like 4 or 5 guys down there, go buy a 30 pack and start the BBQ and think 2gnt thoughts... if you cook meat, they will come!

Seriously though, check all your connections to the fuel pump, did you rewire it as is recommended by so many guys here? Verify that you are in fact getting 12 volts all the way to the fuel pump. If you are and the fuel pump isn't turning on, then you fried your pump, if you aren't then check to see if you get 12 volts out of the relay with the key on. If you get 12 volts there, it's the wires between there and the pump, if not then check the switching wires to the relay, you should get, a number (somebody help me here) I'm thinking 5 volts, but I could be way off, it just needs to be something to switch the relay on. If you aren't getting that then move up to the ECU and check the white/red stripe wire (didn't think I knew that did you f-er's emoji ) it should put out a voltage of some sort to switch the relay. If you've done all of this and still get nothing, host the aforementioned BBQ and hope someone with a '95 shows up, steal his ECU and try to start your car. If none of this works, buy an '89 Toyota pickup and drive the piss out of it while you build a chrome-moly chassis and tub the Eclipse in preperation for the nastiest MS'ed 2.4L Turbo build we've seen yet!

haha.. thanks for the energetic reply. i know there are alot of guys in So Cal 2gnt, but most of them are around the LA area (which isn't THAT far away, but also no imediately accessable). especially all the old timers that have helped me in the past.

I have no time and no car to get to work so i just dropped it off at a garage. It did in fact turn out to be my starter. Aside from the frame, that is just about the last stock original part left on my car.

The reason why my fuel pump wasnt priming, was because the battery died on me after trying to crank the car many times earlier.

No worries Ivan. I didn't have much time to mess with my car anyway, so I just had to bite the bullet and take it to a mechanic.... Fortunately I had a profitable Labor Day weekend in Vegas to pay for the work emoji

How is your car holding up bro... its been a while since I've talked to you or even stopped by 2gnt.
