Ok, I've been helping a buddy with the timing belt on his 91 integra, and now we're stuck at the crank bolt. This bastard won't come off. We have tried all of the following.
1) DOHC Gear lock
result: Belt slipped off the tensioner.
2) putting the car in gear and locking the rotors.
result: Clutch slipped, still a no go.
3) We would have put a breaker bar on the wrench and tried cranking the engine, but as the belt jumped (the reason we are changing the belt) we'd run the risk of damaging pistons of valve (If they haven't already been damaged)
4) Not my idea but, we clamped a vice grips onto the pulley and locked it against the drive shaft.
result: took a chip out of the pulley.
The only time I've ever taken off a pulley the motor was out of the car, and we just locked up the fly wheel. I would say just take the starter off, but it's in the back of the motor. Anybody have any ideas?

If you're not going to do the breaker bar/pulse engine (which I'm not quite sure why you wouldn't do that), then the only other thing would be to get air tools.

Nick, the honda engines need an impact around 600ft lbs. This is typical of all honda series motors. Only 1/2" impact i found that works is a Husky from home depot (550 ft/lbs) and it takes a little bit of momentary impacts. It out performs the Snap on impact i have. I went through the same mess with Marissa's Delsol. Btw the breaker bar and crank method will only do damage on this motor. I know what trick your trying but that wont work.

I'm not familiar with the car but isn't there any way to lock up the flywheel? Any access plates etc.? I used air on my kid's Honda (B-16?). It was on there like a SOB. It looks like that is your best bet.

I know that cranking the motor would only cause damage. THat's why we didn't do it. We do have a compressor, but the 220 outlet doen't match the plug, and the idiots a home depot were not any help finding it. We did end up geting it off. We went through the trouble of taking of the starter and found a way to lock the flywheel without damaging the teeth. Thanks for the help though guys.
