#121190, "IT DIED!!!"

well earlier today my car finally left me walking...lol went around a turn, car lost power, died, and then i saw the smoke from under the hood. Popped the hood there in the middle of the street and checked to see where the smoke was coming from...and well the negative ground from the terminal to the body had all the insulation melted off it.. and the + terminal was quite warm, with the inside of the post kinda melted out.. so after getting the car off the road and in to the college shop, i pulled out the battery and traced out the ground wires... so far so good, no broken wires or loose connections..so maybe my amplifier wiring shorted out or something.. cuz the + lead for the amps was quite warm, and the insulation was spongy... so i unhooked the amps and replaced the battery, just to find that once the car was running again, it loped...bad. like an injector misfire. so i test drove it to see if it would clear up.. sometimes it had great power like nothing was wrong, others it would barely want to move. came back to the college hooked it up to a genisys Diagnostic tool, found an code for the B1S1 O2 sensor high voltage, and i couldnt communicate with the pcm to retrieve datastream information...im suspecting that the computer is shot...any ideas? im gonna replace the computer when i get home with another one i have, to test my theory but i just wanted to see if anyone else had an idea.

Thanks for readin this whole long thing...

Its possible. with electrical issues anything is possible.

A friend had issues communicating with my black eclipse and his genesys when we were in a snap on VS OTC discussion. Obviously i have the snap on scanner. If anyone on campus has the generic Laptop scanner software for an OBDII then give it a shot in the meantime.

lol i actually had a similar problem with the OTC i cant scan my car as an eagle talon, i have to scan it with the information set up as a Eclipse...not that it matters, but i did have a heck of a time the first time i hooked up the scanner. anyway just an update, but i did sort out the problem, my amp wiring had shorted out underneath the battery, and it did indeed smoke the PCM, so i replaced it w/ the ATX one i had kicking around. which leads me to my next question...does the computer for the 97 models (dodge avenger) mtx interchange w/ the 96's? ive done a brief examination of the connectors, and the wire colors appear the same and in the same cavities...and according to alldata, the cavities are the same. so im just wondering on that..ive heard that they do and that they dont.
