#121023, "1ST Time Pulling Motor...Dumb Question..Also Wanna Help SO CAL?"

Alright well I blew my headgasket and I decided to take everything out and freshen everything up, I have had a lot of leaks on the main tranny seal as well so Im going to take that out as well. I was just browsing through the Chiltons guide and it told me to release the fuel pressure, how do i do that? Do i have to go under the seat and mess with the fuel pump? Also Im in So Cal area (Simi Valley,CA) and for anyone that is willing to help it would be more than appreciated. I dont have much but I can pay u a lil and buy u lunch? The more heads the better and the more expierence the better, and other helpful hints? Thanks guys....I just want my baby back....

Take the back seat out pop the cover off and just unplug the harness then start the car up and let it run till it dies (it may not even start up), oh and uncap your fuel tank too.

you don't HAVE to relieve the fuel pressure. Only thing is, when you disconnect the fuel line from the rail, you'll be spilling lots more, no biggie. Out of the million times i've taken out my motor, i never relieved fuel pressue.

Oh, I would help, but simi valley is much too far from me, considering there are many that know how closer and I'm much too busy these days.

You can open up the test port (a schraeder valve) on the fuel rail to relieve the pressure. In all honesty, the pressure shouldn't be very high if you haven't started your car up in a while. I didn't relieve the fuel pressure the last time I changed my fuel filter (I just drove the car the day before), and there was no violent spray of fuel or anything.

I don't know how far you are from turbo8u, but Josh has been through this numerous times. I bet, if you offered some new Castles and lunch, he'd be down if he had the time. Drop him a PM.

Another good person to contact would be SoCal Rob. I forget what his screen name is on here, but Rob is always down to help someone else out. Among the best, imo. :thumsup

Damn why you so far away? I have tues and wed off maybe sunday so I can help after class...

Usual price for friends is one double double meal per hr... lol

no i dont eat a meal per/hr

I agree with everyone The pressure is not that high (thats why the pump primes iteself everytime). Just inbolt it and have a rag / container to catch the fuel, Also, there will be a lot of fuel in the rail. After that and the electrical connectors its just 4 bolts.

yeah just disconnect the fuel line, just do it slowly, helps if you have a Fuel pressure guage hehe.

if you've done it a couple times you can yank that sucka out in like 2-3 hours. bleh I don't wanna go through that again though.

forget the axels. Just drop the oil pan, remove the 4 flex plate bolts, then the 4 trans to block bolts and yank that sucker out. Done.

Its just a snapring thats holding it in there. Dont be affraid, as long as the engine and car are well supported do what you have to.

Just dont damage the seal on the tranny and dont rip the boot. The metal parts dont break with hundreds of Ft/Lbs, how are you going to break em?
