#12070, "code 11, rough idle"

my 95 ESI hasnt been idling too good for the past few months. The possible causes that the PCM code says crankshaft sensor, cam sensor, pcm connector or timing belt skipped one tooth. I changed my timing belt in july but the car runs real good above 2000rpm so i dont believe that is the case. Is there a quick way to test the cam and crank sensor? I am just trying to isolate the problem. thanks in advance.

If you aren't getting a signal from the crank sensor, your car would never start. The ECU can't verify mechanical timing, so it cuts spark.. Same for the cam sensor, i believe. Did this first pop up when the timing belt was done, or was it sometime later? If it started right after the belt was done, it may have been installed one tooth off..

thanks run4cvr, I must have been writing when you posted. I guess I will have to look closer to the timing belt. I figured the tooth off would make the car run like sh*t throughout the whole RPM range. thanks again for the info.

yeah, i really doubted the cranksensor myself but i was trying to optomistic. I did have some EGR problems before the timing belt change but I am not exactly sure when code 11 popped up. I have had a check engine light on for awhile but figured it was the EGR solenoid. I verified that by swapping one with my friend one day but never made it to the junk yard to get one. the idle did get worse when i changed the belt but i checked the damn thing 4 times before putting it back together, but i might as well take a quick peak in. I would have questioned myself but this is the 3rd timing belt i have installed on these types of cars. one question, though, would a tooth off on the timing belt kill power everywhere pretty much? I am still making the same power once off idle, that is the only reason why i didnt' think timing belt but i could've very well made a mistake.

thanks, Ian M.
