3 sets of Code 31:EVAP!!!

IAC easy enough, EGR will clear itself out, but why the hell would i have 3 code 31's?

prolly because code 31 may have 3 specific P codes that cause it. Not sure exactly but that is a distict possability.


2 digit codes are very general, the p codes are much more specific.

Was the car ever Turbo'd? If not, it's probably just a vacuum line or 3 leaking or missing/capped.

CEL 31 can be triggered multiple times by the "EVAP Purge Flow Monitor" system, and there is a 95 Avenger TSB on this.

CEL 31 can also be triggered by the Evap solenoid, knock sensor, and airbag.

like Terry said, a CEL 31 doesnt really help pinpoint anything. Is the light actually on? If so, run the powertrain code, CLEAR it, DONT reset it...this will cause ALL the drive cycles to clear, and it might not get around to an evap check very soon. basically you need a scantool, not a keydance and a negative terminal to really start to figure out what the hell the computer wants from you.

If the computer trips the same code on 2 consecutive trips, it will turn your light on...then there is likely a problem. If there is no light on, and a CEL 31 on a keydance, you wont necessarily fail an emissions as far as visual. At least as far as Cali is concerned, and its strict as hell here.

start with any P codes, there are LONG diagnostic flowcharts for every code...so I mean, get a vision....
