this is still the most reliable car I've ever had...

Problems over the years:
-that 3" piece of rubber coolant hose directly over the exhaust heat shield has burst on me at least 3 times (I should just change it more often)
-hazing over the headlights (easy fix)
-shredded one alternator belt (my fault, UDP pulley slightly misaligned)
-?questionable, might have rear main-seal leak. Don't know, maybe I'll get enough energy to look at it someday

And that's it. I drove the first 15K like a grandma. Then one day I snapped and ever since I redline it almost every single day. I also began to do all my own maintenance at that time.

It's a 99, and yet to experience signs of the headgasket gremlins.

Just wanted to put this in for the archives, so at least some people know that not all 2g's are POS cars. still looks better than most cars on the road IMO

Mine's a 99 also and almost has 140,000 miles on her. Most reliable car I have owned too (out of 2 cars haha). I bought it at 106,000 2 years ago in october. I have beat on this car a lot, and it keeps coming back for more. I hope I always have this car.

I have a 96 and it now has over 120K, never had a single problem out of it, with the exception of the belts breaking a couple of times.

I just hit 217k and only replaced timing, radiator. But I had a few minor bumps with stuff just getting old and needing to be replaced. Like my exhaust that is falling off slowly.

With the proper maintenence any car will last you a long time. Fortunately our cars are fairly simple to upkeep.

I just rolled over 100k on the chassis of my Eclipse a couple weeks ago. Built motor has about 8k and STILL is not boosted!

The bursting 3" hose is probably from a leaky exhaust manifold gasket. Listen for puffing or ticking from the manifold when you start it up cold in the morning. If you can stick your finger between the COLD* shield and the COLD* head you might feel it.

* Just in case some other dumbass reads this.

I would have had him beat, but I got the Trailblazer and put 10k on that already in 4 months.

I parked mine at 203,5xx and only changed the radiator, timing, trans rebuild (didn't know it was leaking), and front left wheel bearing (transmission shop's doing).

I've recently insured the car again, the first thing I did was bring her to redline (after doing an oil change).

EDIT: I think there was one that made it to 235k or so before it died.

Yeah I mine is a 95 ESI and I know for a fact that the previous owners beat it like it was a honda...but I have a few plans for her this winter and will hopefully squeeze 100k more out of her before I do a complete rebuild. I drive allot.

About to hit 264K, but its not on the original motor. Original went at 232K. Still think the original motor would still be in there if it weren't for lack of maintenance from the previous owner.

hmm I hit 100k miles like 11k ago and man I've gone through hell and back in this car haha I don't even wanna start its gotten to that age where stuff is just started to wear out. Its had the engine rebuilt twice but that's my fault. I bet if I didn't modify it so much it'd be a reliable car. But right now it runs and runs pretty well so far please make it to 200k and all the blood, sweat, and dinero will all have been worth it.

I've crossed 194k on this chassis. Original owner, not the best of care, but not exactly abusive, either. The engines are fine. I'm only on my third engine (which happens to be the original with "matching numbers") because of A) wanting to build the motor and B) user error.

These days, I'm running into age-related problems with the chassis:
-tie rods wearing out
-CVs (original) finally breaking down
-creaks and moans from suspension joints when it's cold (below 60* out here)

I think the warm, dry weather really helps preserve these cars. I've had a dent in my front fender that goes all the way to the sheet metal for over four years now and it's not got a spot of rust on it yet. The only rust I have is under the rear lip of the hatch. (*Keep your drain tracks in the hatch clear of leaves and shit, fellas.)

While most people were making their 2GNTs look cool and saved up for engine mods, I've let the looks slide while I addressed performance issues. My plan is now to handle the appearance and maintenance mods in 2007.

I just passed the 118,000 mile mark and did a little bit of highway driving mixed with some city driving and still got 30.3 mpg! HOW BOUT THAT!! And that is with the SFMU hooked up along with the 3" catback exhaust. Not too shabby eh!

I have a 96 114k I got her in 98 I beat on it whenever I can. The only things to go wrong. I had a loose ground, threw the power steering belt, replaced the clutch master cylinder and radiator. Not too bad IMO.

oh and went almost 14000 miles without a oil change. (no joke)

I promise to never do that again.
