ok guys let start by me saying that i have been searching for 3 days trying to find what could be wrong with my car and now im not able to pin point it. let me take you back to where it all started. i was driveing home from work one day and i though i felt it miss didn't think anything of it. well the next day it got worse and worse it was missing so bad that i didn't even drive it home i put on a trailer.
but the missing was not all the time it would miss and run fine and so on and so forth. i got the codes read and they were misfire cyl # 2 and injector circut open cyl # 2. so i pulled the fuel rail and swaped injector # 1 and # 2. still said that it was # 2 so i got a noid light and checked all 4 wires going to the 4 injectors and all check out fine. so i go outside one day to mess with it and i start it up and see that the + wire on the battery was sparking so i thighten it up and it was runing fine. and did so for a about a month. well i was out driveing one day and felt it come back and seen that my check engine light was flashing while i was driveing down the road. now what it sounds like it is doing to me is droping 1 or 2 cyl's and then picking them up again. most of the time it will not do it over like 4000 rpms mosty at like 2500 or so and sometimes at idle. when it starts mising at idle i can rev it and it will sound like a harley like it is runing on 2 cyl's. as it starts mising driveing on the road seams like if i give it some gas and then let off of it it will quit till the next time which is like a sec's away.

my car is a 97 RS MTX

done the key dance a few mins ago and got 27-43-43-43-42-42

so far i have changed coil pack MSD, plug wires, plugs, camshaft PS, and have a new o2 sen. fuel filter has maybe 5k miles fuel pump is not that old ether. now the camshaft PS is a wells part from autozone they said that it requires a connetor witch they did not have but it pluged right in so i have not got one do i really need it?

also done a comp test 195-195-200-195

only to find that it is doing the samething if not worse. felt like it got worse after i changed the camshaft PS
please help me im going nuts.

p.s. someone told me it sounds like i have bad grounds and told me to get a ground wire kit

if you think you mite be able to help me or want to know a little more on what it is doing please feal free to call me on my cell 1-318-332-3839 it's a cingular phone

I doubt its a groudning problem. I think you have a short to ground in your wiring possibly for an injector. it could be intermittent because mainly its not always grounding against something. I would pull all the wiring covering of all the wiring from the Injector harness to the ECU and check for problems in the wiring. You could even check the resistance of the wiring with a multimeter to find out if its open. I would start with that, since you know you had a code for that injector and possibly a problem with it.

As far as the CPS sensor, I use those sensors all the time from Autozone and they tell you need the connector, but I have never used it. I actually bought one once, compared them to my stock connector, and nothing is different. I wouldnt worry about that being the problem.

It could be a bad ground anywhere near the ECU. I have seen it on GM's, specicially the 3800 series. Just make sure your ground points are tight. A ground wire kit wont nec make it any better depending on where the bad ground is.

I doubt a sticking injector, besides you said you swapped them around and its still number 2.

Check the harness alone the driver side of the engine and make sure the EGR didnt wear thin on the harness then with the car running wiggle the wires going into the ECU, Coil, Cam pos sensor. Another member had the wiring go bad at the cam sensor plug and that was causing a similer issue.

CEL 42 has to do with the ASD and/or fuel pump relays. When you do your compression testing, do you disconnect either of those relays? Proceedure says you should, but some people don't. In any case, they're the two, thick ass relays on the firewall on the driver's side of the engine bay. See if dis-/reconnecting them helps?

You're getting misfire and ASD/fuel pump relay codes. Those relays would be the first place I would look.

HHMMNN I didnt even look at the codes but the fuel pump relay failing could do it. The ASD would throw a whole different set of codes other that Misfire #2 so i dont know about that one. Doesnt hurt to chk both anyway or swap them with different ones.

ok im gonna try the two relays tomorrow. let me ask you guys something. i put a new Walbro 255lph fuel pump in about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago and like for the last month or two it kindas sounds weird like i can hear the pump runing and when i turn the head lights on i can hear it slow down it's like the more i turn on the more it will slow down and when i turn everything off it gets louder like alot louder. think this mite have something to do with it? cuz it realy only misfires at idle or when im holding speed it like never misfires when im on the gas.

IDK if it's your problem, but from the progression that you talk about and the "weird" problem that you have, I would suggest that you take the time to do the rewire (if you haven't already). It does seem to be fuel/electrical related:
