#119785, "Weird... ECU **STILL** hasnt figured out some things.... wtf!!"

Ok so... Basically I'm trying to smog the car so I can sell it. Put a new cat on, code 21 pops up. I replace the rear o2 sensor and harness, code goes away. But now, after resetting the ecu, the o2 sensor, EGR system and two other monitors dont have readings or are "not complete."

It's been a week/about 200 miles since I last tried to smog it, and yet it still has the same problem. Same four monitors are showing no reading.

Whats going on? how long is this going to take? Damn you ALL!! emoji

Now... one thing... I've been putting the plug for the smog computer into the black connector. I thought I saw a white one behind it... is this my problem? SHould I have put the plug into the rearward connector? (if thats what it is)

I am not sure if the smog computer uses the white plug.....scanners do so i would expect it too also, no idea.

As for your non complete...that is because the vehicle requires several driving conditions to complete all of its readiness monitors. Try takign it down the highway for a while. Also how many key cycles has it counted so far? 50 key cycles is also required to complete the monitors.

this is to keep people from sitting in the smog line and resetting their ecu to pass.

All this info is taken first hand not parroted off the internet somewhere. I go through this when i scan and clear my codes with my snap on scanner.

ah 50 keyturns... yeah thats why.... I'm well under fifty

how much time must there be between each keyturn? could I cram another 40 cycles into a couple hours' time?

I am not sure if the ECU compares key turns to driving conditions. It cant hurt to try. turn the key on and let the car idle for a few mins. I am going to chk my scanner info tonight and see it defines the two conditions and or how they relate.

Wait a minute....code 12 will never go away......that will always remain in your codes. If that is whatyou are basing your worries on then just go test the car.

For reference i just went out to the car a pulled codes with akey dance. 12 12 55. I have not reset my ECU for 8 months and that was just to remove the battery to remove the turbo kit.

I know i have more that 100 key on cycles. The code chart reads 12 as being the code for power to ECU disconnected but that is not all it means. Also represents clear codes if followed by 55 which is the code for "end of codes"

ohdam

could it also be the fact that we've only connected the smog computer up to the forward/black port?

yeah that didnt do it... I did 51 starts/shut downs in about an hour... then I did maybe a total 40 while coasting to a stop on the road... went to smog and now i've got FIVE monitors that arent there...

I'm going to try the resistor mod again on the rear sensor... see if that makes a difference

Generic OBDII scanners can use only the black connector to read/clear codes. The white square harness is used in conjunction with the black OBDII one for monitoring some data readings as well as performing individual component tests (example, you want to activate the purge solenoid, or the fuel pump with key on engine off). I know that the Snap-On MT2500 scanner has the adapter with a Y-connector so that both plugs are used for the above purpose. I do not think it is possible to use the white harness alone (or that it would yield any results).

Did you ever figure out this problem? I am having the same exact problem and I have only about 20 starts on it and yesterday i took it in and it was not reading 4 sensors. I want to try the 50 starts method but now I'm worried since you said that now a 5th sensor won't read. If you or anyone could share any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated.
