I've narrowed my problem down to having a bad ECU. Fuel pump not priming, no Check Engine CEL when key is "ON". Checked the relays and fuel pump and they were good. Its a 95 MTX.
I'm in California and I was wondering if I could get away with installing a Federal spec ECU in the car? Actually, the car was bought in Hawaii and brought to CA. The ECU was previously replaced under warranty back in '99. The VIN # is calling for a CA spec ECU. Any problems smogging the car after install? I ask because the 49-spec ECU is considerably cheaper than the CA-spec.

hmm, where are you planning on getting the ECU? Try on the FS/WTB section, peeps here let em go for about $50 + or including shipping. Also, im not completely certain, but you could have the ECU reflashed at your local Stealership, but then im not completely certain if the CA spec ECU differences are only in software. When I replaced mine when I barely got my car, I bought it from this place in Arizona for $300, I could have gotten a core refund, but I never sent in my old one.
