just put on today. and i've totally lost my low end power this sucks. i shoulda waited for more mods to do this. i gotta helluva deal though. 318 for a magnaflow muff mirror finished lifetime warranty plus 2.5 inch piping and highflow cat. labor and tax all included. so my problem is. how do i get my low end power back? my thoughts were AFX UDP but that coul be some expensive labor. then i thought bored t/b but those are like 300 bucks less you gotta t/b to send out. so is there any other way i can get back some low end power without rebuilding my motor?

Put your stock cat back on. You don't really need a high-flow cat with your mods. That will give you a little bit of low-end back.

NT's need some back pressure. I removed my resonator for better flow. Sucked. I went back, paid $30 for a glasspack. This opens up enough of your piping for some better flow, and lets you maintain backpressure. I love the low end it gave me back. Better than ever. Magnaflow muffler, stock pipes, and a section replaced with glasspack. My glasspack isn't really long, but it helps keep the raspy shit down. No resonator was just too raspy for me and sucked when on the highway.

Exhaust gases out the engine need to be able to maintain velocity. backpressure doesn't help power anywhere.

Small pipes allow you to maintain velocity while a good free flowing muffler wont add any undue backpressure, which is why stock piping and a good muffler work well. Also why Greddy NA catbacks are only 50mm with straight thru muffler.

If you really want your low end back sell it to someone with a turbo and just slap a straight thru muffler on your stock piping.

Could add a resonator or glasspack. Adding a 55mm TB will help pull some air in along with a UDP I think you'll be fine.

Find a junkyard TB and send that to Howell to get bored out, no downtime.

I just installed my pacesetter catback and my 17" rims this weekend and I really didnt feel a loss of bottom end, well i did but it wasnt that great. Do you have an automatic??? I was going to get my straight thru muffler welded on but those sons of bitches closed on me before I had the chance

the pully is a good idea but i would go with a 4-2-1 header if you want more bottom end. then again thats a hell of a lot more expensive than the pully.

headers supposedly dont really do anything for our cars, its best to just get your exhaust manifold ported and polished.

since i have 4-2-1 headers and i think it was my best mod for bottom end id say they do something. i have heard that 4-1 headers dont do shit tho.

the glasspack seems to have helped the bottom end pull a lot better. It sounds better than with test pipie and no resonator at all for sure. I thought if piping was smaller, backpressure was there anyways??? Dunno. I have stock piping, a glasspack resonator, not long, but the core is pretty big, and then a magnaflow muffler. I love the sound. Has a low growl to it.

Theres gonna be some backpressure, its not a perfect world but too small piping will cause excessive backpressure. The question is "is the stock piping to small to begin with. Greddy for one must not feel so since their NA 2G exhaust uses 50mm/2" piping (which according to Joe P for those who remember him said it felt the most powerful of all the exhaust he had on his car NA).

The bottom line is there isn't much to gain modifying the exhaust to begin with most likely because the piping is already optimized. if its big enough for a stock 210hp GST its probably adequate for a 140hp NA engine. I know 2.5" piping did nothing for me NA but make moe noise. If I were staying NA I wouldn't do anything but slap a Hayame muffler on the stock piping. MAYBE after I've done something worthy of a 2.5" exhaust such as major intake and head porting mods I might give it a try. For someone with an intake, header and pulley give me a break, your just throwing money at nothing. How many aftermarket exhaust on the market for 2L NA cars (hondas, nissans ect) do you see with 2.5" piping? That should be the 1rst clue. If 2.5" piping is the size of choice for low/moderately boosted 420As how in the world can the same engine with 100 less hp at the wheels be optimized for the same size exhaust.
