sup guys its me again i got my engine rebuilt at school and all specs are good but now my damn rods are knocking already the first trip to parts store (3 miles away) i get back to school knocking so i pull the pan my damn #2 end rod bolt is loose so i check out bearing all good and then when i pull the cap off i noticed that the second rod bolt was no where near as tight as the first one so i grab some of my old rod bolts put them both on and retorque them and put it all togeather i put oil in fire her up pers like a kitten.i drive it about 100 miles starting on breakin now the damn thing is knockin again so what do u guys think buy some new rod bolts with lock tight thread locker or hunt down some arp's thanks

I think you've already damaged the rod, bearing, and probably the crank. You need to have that crank journal checked for out of round, probably turned down .010", and install new bearings. You'll need to replace that rod, too, as it's probably been beaten out of round as well. There is no easy "throw new rod bolts in and maybe new bearings" fix - they'll spin again in short order.

When you rebuilt your block, did you check the tolerances with plasti-gauge strips? Did you torque everything to spec? Did you use a shitload of assembly grease?

This stuff just doesn't happen out of nowhere.

yes i used plastigauge and everything was good i rechanged the rod bearings today and another road trip still knock so i'm going to either trade my talon for my friends 98 gs with nearly the same mods or sink another 3 to 4 huntred in the new bottom end what do u guys think if his car is in good shape it has 150,000 on it but its clean should i trade? thanks 4 all the help guys

o yeah when she came apart this last time #4 was spun so i closed my eyes and emery clothed the rod and cranks to get it smoothed and now i think the #4 is the one knocking again so i know 4 a fact i need a new crank any price quotes for a new oem bottom end thanks

www.partsdinosuar.com has your pistons, rings, rods and bearings. Cheapest i've seen and you're getting a brand new part.

Dunno about where you can get an oem crankshaft. Personally, i'd either hit up the u-pulls, ebay, or 2gnt's marketplace.


I'm really puzzled and interested to know the verdict of why the same bearing spun twice.
