#118214, "No Spark 95 RS"

Hi! (my first post) Just wanted to say thanks for all the informative posts on this site. I have spent many hours here learning about my car and it's "wonderful little quirks".

Now for the problem...

I was at work the other day and my friend decided to "be nice" and replace my o2 sensor. Now my car won't start, fuel primes, I can hear my relays click (even felt each one individually while someone else turned the key, yes I checked the ASD and Fuel Pump) but I have no spark. I have an old ASD and fuel pump relay that still work, swapped out still no spark. Coil pack was replaced recently so I pulled it and had it tested, it is good. Plugs and wires are good, testing shows no spark. CAS tested good, CMP was replaced since I could not test it. Checked both fuse boxes no blown fuses etc. Now I find out that he replaced that o2 sensor with the battery still plugged in emoji

I have read several posts similar to mine and hear the same three things pop up, ASD CMP or PCM/ECU. My question is with my fuel priming, my relays clicking, and my ASD good and a new CMP installed, could this be the PCM? I pulled the PCM and put it back in and no change (yes I disconnected the battery!).

Stock 420a engine

I wish I could solve your problem, but I'm having a very similar issue with my son's car. You may want to check that thread (Another Cranks but Won't Start Issue) and follow the advice given there, to help you troubleshoot your problem. Please be sure to post back with the solution, as it may help others (like me!) Thanks.

Also, be sure to check the pinned topics and search for more info. Good luck, and don't forget to let us know what solves your problem.

I had the same problem with my 95 as well, turned out to be a bad ground wire in the harness, so I just ran it directly to the battery, problem solved

Update

Decided after redoing everything to just have her towed and placed on the machine **sniff** I will keep you updated as soon as I hear from my mechanic.

Sorry to hear that. My son's 97 RS is still at the dealer (day 3). Hope yours is a quicker fix, but please let us know what you find and I'll do the same. Thanks.

Alright I got her back...

One crank angle sensor (which tested good three times, by me, the mechanic and by Autozone go figure) and one full wiring harness between the PCM and the CAS later, she is running. Although now I have code 11 since I picked her up. Time to make someone fix their mistake!!!

Hmmm. Did you replace the CAS first and still had no spark, then replaced the wiring harness and she fired up? Still haven't gotten sons 97 back and problem is very similar, so details are important. Thanks for posting with your fix.

You probably have a code 11 because they tried to crank it with the crank angle sensor disconnected. it'll go away.

2G Dad,

They did the harness first because I had told them the CAS had checked out good. When it didn't fire up after that they tested it and it tested good so they went through the wires again. After that since they had one there they put it on "just to see" and she fired right up. Good luck, I will ask my mechanic on Monday if there was anything else specific that might help.

DarkOne,

How long will it take to go away? I also noticed that my battery is lower than it should be, car off around 11.5v car on 12.9v, normal should be car off 12.9v and car on 13.6v. Thanks for the tip!

Appreciate the info. Still waiting for word from the dealer. They put their "Master Mechanic" on it late Thursday, then he was off Friday, so won't know any more until Tuesday. However, I did describe your situation to the service tech that has been checking out the car and asked him if they could try changing sensors just to be sure.

Autozone should clear that code for you for free if you feel like stopping in. Otherwise, it's probably just a stored code to let you know something was up with that sensor. As you know by now, loss of CAS or CMP signal to the ECU results in a no-run condition, so if the car's running, you should be good to go.

I suspect the battery just needs some time to recover from all the cranking without actually running while you were troubleshooting.

Sounds like you're home free! Wo0t!
