So I found out today that I probably have more than one oil leak. I knew I had one but it doesn't leak much oil. Guys had it in the shop today and they say it's for sure the Rear Main, header seems to be leaking in the middle, and my spark plugs were wet, so the valve cover too.
I've been buying small bits for a custom turbo setup over the last month and now I'm worried that once boosted, the car is pretty much going to take a dump on me and I'll be stuck out with a car that needs a rebuild because the leaks have worsened.
So I dunno, what do you guys think? I haven't thought too much about the leaks because there's hardly ever any oil under the car. *shurgs* I work about five days a week and this is my only vehicle, I don't make that much money being newly 18, saving for a move to another city for school and other stuff. If I rebuild it I'll probably just save and fully build the engine with Eagle Rods And JE's, basically the HRC performance kit, but I'd like to try and save some money however I can.
I don't really have any tools, very little experience, and very little time to work on this myself. Who knows, maybe the leaks wont get too much worse and I'll have time to save for internals after It's boosted, which was my plan to begin with.

If you go ahead and boost it before fixing your problems, you're just asking for trouble. Maintenance before modifications ESPECIALLY if it's your only car.

The cracker speaks sooth. We know it sucks spending money to fix things before you actually see any performance gains, but think of the relief you'll feel knowing the car is solid and ready for some abuse!
Money may be tight, but a socket set, some screw drivers and a set of ratcheting wrenches will really get you far. Consider it one of the wisest investments you'll ever make. As a car guy, having tools which will allow you to get in there and tinker will provide you with a great start down the path to really reaching your ultimate goals for the car. One day, you'll have something break or about to break on the car and, instead of worrying about how you're going to pay for the repairs, you're just going to be bummed that you have to give up a night of watching HBO or playing the Xbox. Seriously. Ask anyone here with a lot of mods and they'll tell you - there's no more fear, only loathing.
You can absolutely replace the valve cover yourself for under $40 and the header has to come off when you install the turbo manifold, so really give some more thought to turning your own wrenches as often as you can. You'll be able to invest more money into go-fast parts than questionable installs and repairs.
Now, the rear main, well, that means either pulling the engine or dropping the trans. Unless it's serious, I'd let it slide, but get started doing some research on replacing it yourself. Getting to it is the only trouble. Once you have it staring you in the face, it takes less than five minutes to replace. Dead serious.

Yeah, I do agree with both of you. I've been trying to take care of all the maintenance I can before boost.
I might try my hand at replacing the HG, and from what I was reading in another thread it sounds like one of them is actually my cam seals because I have a spray of some dirty stuff right over the timing belt, although I do have the cover on it. So I dunno.
What's the best way to pinpoint where a leak is coming from?
I think I'm going to ask for a torque wrench for Christmas.
