What is the maximum working pressure that our cooling system exerts? my logic tells me that it is determined by the radiator cap, unless there is some other external forces that I forgot to account for.
I am asking because the hose that comes off the water neck that goes toward the heater core sprung a leak on me, causing my temp needle to peg itself in the red, and even setting off the temp alarm. Luckly I was near an exit and pulled into a StarBucks where 10 plus trips into the mens room with a Dasini bottle later(which looks suspecious as hell), i got enough water into the coolant system to limp home.
I replaced the hose with Gate's Extended Service Silicone Heater hose (Green with red lining), but was curious on the pressure that this hose is capable of.
It is rated at -55* to +204*, with reinforced aramid knit. Meets requirement of SAE 20R3 Class A (yeah whatever that means), and has a working pressure of 60psi.
