#117434, "Radiator hissing (small dent in radiator) after putting R134a refrigerant."
I got some epoxy for metal and I'm trying to plug it, but the epoxy is too "liquid" and gets pushed off by this stream of "gas" from this pin hole in the radiator. Is this really the refrigerant leaking? I'm assuming it was because before I put the R134a in there (and had to cold AC) there was no hissing. Aside from replacing the radiator what do you guys suggest for a temporary leak? Thanks in advance

If it is the radiator I would just epoxy it temporarily while the motor is cold. If it is the condenser on the other hand, I would live without A/C until I could come up with the money to replace it. Leaks in the A/C system that require you to 'crack' the system open are typically expensive as they are several things that need to be checked.

Are you saying you put the refrigerant in the actual radiator or did you put it into the A/C system? If you put it in the radiator then I have no idea what you might have done to the engine/ cooling system, but at the very least you will need to drain and refill the coolant/water.
Our A/C system isn't serviceable by the home mechanic without a lot of specific tools.

To be honest I was not talking about my car, but my friends Hyunday. We filled up the AC system with R134a refrigerant through the Low-side access port just like you are supposed to. The AC is beautifully cold now, but he previously had a front collision and the hood latch mechanism put a small penny size dent in the radiator fins, actually right in the middle and center. There is nothing else wrong with his car. After having the AC filled up, we noticed a hissing coming from the radiator. Sure enough I popped the hood, put my hand over the dent and felt a stream of "air". Now its not cold air so I am unsure if its the refrigerant leaking. I have no idea why the AC would leak from the radiator but it started after the fact that I already mentioned so I assume they must be related. He is enjoying his cold AC, but I told him this will very likely be short lived due to the leak.
We got some epoxy and slowed down the leak, but the crack/leak is so small it pierces though the still moldable epoxy.

Try J-B Weld, it held my stock radiator together for 3 months until I could get a new fluidyne.

so I'm not sure if this is old or not - post says Dec '07 but replies are Aug '07... anyway thought I'd add that if you think it's your radiator, top off the system and run it. If it's the radiator it'll be fluid, not air. On the other hand, the a/c runs through your condensor up front to cool it off from being pressurized from the compressor, and it'll be hot air if it's punctured. You'll have cold a/c for probably up to a week before it all leaks out, if it's a small leak. From your description it sounds like the condensor, in which case it has high-side pressures up to 300psi, and you should replace it and not JB it. JB is great on radiators that are around 16psi, but don't try it on a R-134a system.
