Whenever I turn on my heater or my headlights when I bring the car to a stop it will begin to squeel. After this started happening I tightened the belts thinking that might help and it did a little bit now I can use the heater without it squeeling. When I turn the headlights on though it continues to do it. Any ideas about whet is causing this? It's a 98 N/T.

if your alternator belt is tight, it's possible you belt is just worn out. May guess your alt. bearings are goin bad, but you'd hear that most all the time.

x2. I would agree that it is definately alternator related.

If it were the bearing, there would be an awful loud screeching sound. Take the belt off and inspect it for cracks/wear etc...

Without a doubt. Sounds like the belt isn't tight enough. There are two adjustment bolts on the alternators bracket attached, one on the pass side and one behind the block.

Mine is doing the same thing. horrid sound IMO. My light dim down a little bit when it is happing. but it only happens at a stop. A short rev makes it stop usually. I'm going to replace both my belt and alt at some point in time. Don't really want to. seems like its gonna suck doing it.
