Ok i bought car wrecked slowly rebuilding it. it is a 1997 rs engine has a knock around 3500 rpms but does not make noise when it has a load on it only when slowly reving up to 3500 rpms so i figuered it was main bearings drain oil find bearing material in oil little pieces. so start to tear down to change mains and get to the bed pan and take bolts out and it want come off want even budge so their is still bolts holding it on im guessing but i hav looked every where and do not see any bolts holding it is their some bolts hidden some where i mean dang please help thank you

i could have sworn you couldnt change the main bearings without removing the crank since the bearings are keyed. and you cant get the crank out without removing the pully, timing sprokett and oil pump. plus you have to undo the crank from the transmission.
if your going through the trouble to get to the main bearings, id have the crank atleast polished back up. if the mains were in fact the cause then i can bet you that the crank journals have some scuffs, and may possibly ruin the new set your putting in.

Thank you everybody for your help and sugestions and to clairafy you can take the bedplate off with the engine still in and let me tell you what a b**ch it is go the extra steps and pull the engine trust me its worth the extra time it will save you lots of headachs and loss of hair lol... But i go through all the trouble and guess what the mains are perfectly fine look great so that means it is rod bearings all that work for nothing.... Thank you once agian everybody..
