I have a 98 eclipse n/t automtic transmission and just recently when i first take off my speedometer will jump around. When it is time for the car to shift sometimes the needle will drop all the way to 0. If at this point I accelerate even the littlest bit the car will slam into second and then from there will not shift up or down anymore, unless i pull over, put the care in park, then shut the car off then start it again. What could be causing this and how much would it cost to fix it.

new tranny prolly... easiest route? but thats just me talkin... at first i would think the sensor would make the speedo messed up. But if its slammin' into 2nd and stuff then i would suspect the transmission itself. Im not real sure how the whole torque converters things work. But hell, you could just swap to a five speed
