I recently bought a 1997 Eclipse, must say it was love at first drive.
Well it had a DTC P0455 sense I bought it from a dealer he was inclined to fix the issue, He told me more then likely was the fuel cap so they installed a new one and cleared the code.
About a week after I picked up the car the MIL light was on again, I checked it with my code reader and same code appeared. I called the dealer and he said bring it back so I did he sent it to his shop.
I received a call the next day he told me that the EVAP vent valve would need to be replaced, and would take about a week to get.
He called me about a week later and said the valve was in And to bring the car in when I can. So I did.
Picked the car up and 1 week the light came back on, same thing P0455 I was told this time he put the car on the smoke machine and did not see any problems, so they decided to drop the gas tank and replace the vent line at the tank.
Finely got the car back a week went by and no light good I thought it was finely over, no I was wrong. The check engine light was burnt out (found this because I noticed the light did not light when I turned on the key)
Put in a new bulb and found the light on again same code P0455.
I have checked all vacuum lines and found one bad one so I replaced it but the light came back on.
Can any one out the lead me to another direction of what could be the issue.
If I did not enjoy the car so much I would take it back and tell the dealer to take the car and put it where the sun don't shine, sense he did sell me a car that Will not pass CA. smog
'97. good luck. Same year here. You will be better off selling the car. I have never been able to get rid of my EVAP code over the past 3 years even after replacing the entire EVAP system. The only thing left is to replace the roll over valve, which of course, is on top of the tank and inaccessible without dropping the tank.

That TSB is not going to help you. What it states in a nut shell is how to diagnose the Leak Detection pump. Basically it tells the dealer techs not to just replace the pump but instead make sure it is oriented correctly on the bracket and check for leaks. Apparently pumps were being replaced prematurely and good pumps were being sent back to the manufacturer.

Thanks for that bit of info so I need not look any further for the TSB ok then I have to ask I do not remember reading about the leak Detection pump, is this in the test equipment or the car? if the car then where would it Be?
Well I called 3 different places today and believe it or not the Local DSM dealer actually Mitsu + KIA dealer was the cheapest. The person I talked with on the phone told me that when they are done I would know exactly what the issue was.
they hook the car up to the computer start the car and the test takes up to 2 hours finish but I will finally know whats up

How much are they charging you...I need to have this done if after I replace everything and if that cel still comes on.

Well I have no Check Engine Lights....But I just don't have a engine...LOL
2 hours my ass. my scanner spits the codes out in less than 5 minutes and its no cheap vatozone setup.
The LDP is located in the passenger fenderwell on 96-98. In some late 98's and 99 it was relocated to in back by the gas tank. The LDP basically runs a evap vacuum test to determine if there are any leaks.

No comment here other then you must make a lot diagnosing trouble codes can't becouse if you read my post it says it could take up to 2 hours not that it will take 2 hours it all depends on how the ECU acts.

And your right I'm new to the import seen, That's why I'm here on this form to learn as much as I can and get help with any problems that arise with my new toy (as my wife calls it.)
I've been pre ECU's ECM's and what ever any of the other car makers decide to call the (Engine control unit)my whole life, as far as I'm concern rip out all the computer crap and throw it all away, and lets have some real FUN my garage is all old school. and right now my only joy is restoring my '60 T-Bird.

Here in Nor Cal. The dealers Quote was 157.50 for the full 2 hours and less if it takes less time to find the error.
