Hello DSM'ers,

I recently bought a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with 160,000 miles on the engine. The top half was rebuilt around 30,000 miles ago. The car needs a new transmission and some body work.

I'll be getting around $4000 by the end of this year from student loans and I have a job. I was thinking about rebuilding the internals, such as rods, pistons, cams etc.. and boring the engine to .020. I'll be doing this so I can support a nice turbo. The tranny will be fixed this summer and will cost around $1,300 for a performance rebuild.

Even after rebuilding the engine and transmission and adding a turbo, I was wondering how reliable the car will be, since it's a 12 year old car. How long will the engine last after the mods?

That should seal just fine.

You're doing a performance rebuild on the block and tranny? Good.

As long as you keep the right tune for whatever boost you're running, keep an eye on your temps and fluid levels and dont drive like a tard, it should last and last and last. It all depends on how you maintain it.

The tranny rebuild is something similar to the stage 1 shepstrans.
