#11488, "How good are 420A stock rods?"

Been told by Stan and Angel (dsmnt96) that our stock rods can withstand a beating especially after hearing Stan ran 10psi and 75 shot daily driven w/ only pistons, rings, and 400cc injectors. But Stan never raced at the track so Im wondering if the rods will be able to handle anything higher then 10psi at the track. Im looking to get those same internals listed above that Stan had and run 10psi daily driven, no NOS (unless my friend running 2 bottles in his Civic convince me otherwise) and run about 12psi at track. What ya think? Anything else I should add to that list?

Well if you are wanting to run 12 psi at the track, put in race gas and don't worry about it.

Sounds good... How much is race gas about and if I have lets say 1/4 of preminum gas in car or even 1/2 tank and then put race gas how will that work? Or do I have to pretty much be on empty? Never raced at track before but I will/ need to soon. Also Im gonna get a good head gasket, timing belt and clutch also. Im worried about head gasket. Did Stan change his head gasket? I need to get install prices sometime but first I need to stop being lazy and install my Super AFC, turbo timer and get my stainless steel 3" piping and install my A/F gauge when it gets here (hint hint Stan send me my BOV and gauge man) Sorry. Im sure your car is still at shop or something, its all good. WHenever you got time cause the main reason Im waiting to install AFC and turbo timer is cause I wanted to get A/F install at same time. Email me Stan and we will talk. peace

hhmmm...i thought Stan ran 75 shot and then ditched the NOS for boost...dont think he ran both at the same time...

someone correct me if im wrong.

as for the topic: if it were my car and i was rebuilding, i would replace the rods when i pulled the engine apart the first time to replace pistons and rings. no point in having a weak link in the setup. at the very least, have the stock rods shot-peened

Ha Im desappointed in F & F DVD. I think they shoulda done a bio on all the cars especially that SKYLINE and of course that NO TURBO POS ECLIPSE, although that fake BOV sounded nice.
Anyways, lets say I do end up getting Eagle or Crower rods or whatever. It would probably make sense to go ahead and buy the Howell rebuild kit and go all out? I know its like $1000 which is a good deal but Im only concerned about the install price on that whole kit plus clutch, head gasket and timing belt. I aint made of $ and Im not sure how old everyone in here is but I consider myself pretty young (19) to have 10G's in my car by my b-day in May. Anyone in here ever had someone install the Howell kit? cause Im curious how much Im gonna get charged to get the whole kit install plus the other stuff I need. Also if I decide not to get the kit any guesses and how much it will cost to install Pistons, Rings, injectors, head gasket, timing belt and clutch and a real shop????????? Im probably goin to Extreme Motorsports in Jessup MD for all you locals. They specialize in Eclipses but I have never been there. Thanks

installing new rods isnt gonna cost anymore than re-installing stock rods with new pistons...its the same work, regardless of what u put back in.

My cars been out the shop but I'm still waiting for them to produce my A-pillar, AF and Volt gauge (the whole A-pillar is missing, they are looking). The pipe, BOV and inserts for the cluster pod are sitting right here (between the holidays and then 5" of snow I haven't sent anything).

I have stock headgasket. My rods were shotbeened, balanced and all the other sh*t (about $50 a rod).
