ok, stupid question but I'm new to DSMs, just got my 95 RS a couple weeks ago (have wanted one for years) Anyway, the car is all stock but the exhaust seems pretty loud - If I wind it up I can really hear it even if the stereo is up loud. Sounds great inside the car but maybe a little farty from outside. The muffler looks stock but was surprised by how loud the thing gets, just wondering if that was normal on these cars. Great site btw, I'm learning all kinds of stuff.

they're not loud stock. I would check for leaks, holes from rust, etc. in your exhaust

stock is annoyingly quiet. you've got a leak. look around the cat.

Another place to look would be around the flex section and make sure its not coming apart. If you see small wires hanging down there i could almost bet money it's coming apart. That is where my leak was, right at the meeting point between flex section and piping.
