Is it possible for a clutch master cylinder to fail without the usual leakage on the firewall (inside or out)? Can the piston get stuck in the cylinder,or the internal seal wear to the point that depressing the clutch pedal will not build up enough pressure to move the slave cylinder rod? Just rebuilt the slave and will go for the MC kit next, but wondered if anyone else had run into a similar problem. Search only brings up leaking MC failures. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm sure it's possible... however leaking is just the usual sign of failure.
Have you considered you may have a leak elsewhere that is bleeding off your pressure?

After rebuilding slave cylinder yesterday (there was definitely leakage there before the rebuild), added fluid and pumped pedal (a lot) still no pressure at all and no movement at slave cylinder. Fluid level is steady, with no leaks visible from inside or out. Son has complained about difficult shifting off and on for months. Usually, bleeding the system helps (for a while). I'm thinking go for the MC rebuild next, since that's the only thing we haven't touched so far.

it hasn't happened on my 2G but I have had a master cylinder go bad on an integra I used to have. it was backflushing into the reservoir somehow when the car was really hot. worked great cold but hot it wouldn't do a damn thing. never leaked a drop but when I replaced it all the issues went away

Got the kit and did the rebuild last night. I don't know what twisted mind designed the clip that holds the rod in the front of the MC. I did get it together in spite of that. Now for the bad part. Seems there is something else broken in the clutch release system. The arm (20432A)that the clutch release bearing pivots on, has no resistance on it at all. With the slave cylinder rod fully extended, you can still drop the rod out of the end of that arm (which should have pressure on it, pushing the rod into the slave cylinder). Anyone know what's broken to cause this? Don't know if I'm up to pulling the tranny for this. What a pain.

I suspect you're looking at a broken arm. You might be able to get that little rubber boot out of the way to see if you spot anything in there with a flashlight, but I'm thinking the clutch should be resting against that arm.

I think you mean the clutch should be resting against the clutch release bearing. I'm a little fuzzy on the details of the pivot arm, but here's what I suspect may have happened: I seem to recall there are two "pins" (sort of like dowel rods) on the end of the pivot arm and they fit into a groove on the sleeve that the clutch release bearing is pressed onto. If one or both of those pins broke (or the flange on the clutch release sleeve they fit into broke)then the arm would fall free of the clutch release mechanism. If this is the case, I don't see any way around pulling the tranny to fix it. Grrr....

^you would be correct
