#114628, "sources for catalytic converter?"

(yes - am still alive...)

So, as promised here:
http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=85774#86471

it is 2 years later and I once again did not prepare for smog. I'll have to file an extension like I did last time, but it's prolly a given I'll need a new cat.

Any recommendations for sources? Found this on on ebay:
http://stores.ebay.com/Auto-WHSE-1 for $73 + $16 ship + $55 core

Also, any idea if the testers would have a problem if the dash doesn't fully illuminate? The actual warning indicators seem to come on - for example the low fuel indicator works, and I'm pretty sure the CEL would as well (need to pay more attention next time I start it up). I've been driving it this way for a while now, which is fine during the day but at night I have no idea how fast I'm going...

O.o you really exist!

I honestly wouldn't use Ebay cats, they're usually just resonators marketed as "Catalytic converters"

magnaflow high flow for $88, doesn't say that it'll pass cali but if they're really jerks you may get stuck with a $300+ OE cat from satan

I just bought a Magnaflow cat off Ebay. It is a real catalytic converter, it was like $65 shipped. It was a great deal, search for it.

I have two OEM cats. PM sent.

BTW, if a recycler here in Phoenix will pay me $50-60 for a used converter how can people sell them new for $65?

Have they figured out a way to build them with less precious metals inside them but my old ones are still chocked full of goodies?

Just curious...

Juan, as far as your dash lights are concerned, those lights have different bulbs than your CEL and other dummy lights, so that won't affect smog.

I'm assuming you have a burned out rheostat. You can replace it with another one to get the dash lights back on, or bypass your existing one (so dash lights will always be on with 100% intensity, with no dimmer switch.) Driving without those lights is a pain. But then again, it's more reason to take your evo out, right? emoji

thx all for the info so far. I got an extension from the DMV so the pressure is off a bit.

Have to head back to Canada tomorrow for a family thing that just happened, so will pick this up next week...

if I'm reading this right, the cat may actually be ok.

A section of the trace at idle after the car was warmed up a little reports the following ranges:

O2S11 0.05V - 0.86V
O2S12 0.24V - 0.88V

Will try getting an actual test tomorrow to get some hard numbers.
