The axle from hell. We used an industrial puller with no luck. Finally pulled the whole thing. Soaked it in with WD for a week and put it on a press. 3,000 lbs and nothing. Finally put about 1,000 lbs on it and rattled the hub with an air chisel. That popped it loose. If we had the air chisel with the puller it probably would have worked. Also a lot of fun trying to get the bearing out of the cast arm with no way to support it.

Holy shit. Sounds like you really had the axle from hell. It happens. Look on the bright side... At least you didn't take a sledge to it and mushroom out the end only to find you couldn't fit it through the bearing.

Might want to put a little anti-seize on those splines next time around, eh/

The press did push the threads. Have a new axle on order and have already picked up the grease.

I felt your pain, did this about a month ago. I took the whole knuckle assembly off of the car and mushroomed the end of the threads and it still didn't budge. After the axle fell apart and the last peice(5inch section of the axle stuck in the hub) was left I almost gave into the press. My BFH finally won and got it loose but then I had to deal with the mushroomed tip. Nothing my grinder couldn't handle. The new axles got a good helping of antiseize. lol

Worse than pulling the engine. Great site lots of good help here. We gave it the anti-seize too. Not looking forward to the other side.
