#114220, "Heater/blower"

First of all I own a 97 talon nt almost completely stock. I have encountered some kind of problem with my heater.

When I start car up in the cold I can hear a belt that squeals for a little bit, I know it is my power steering/ac belt because once it stops if I turn the wheel it squeals as long as I am making the power steering work. It is not bad but just might help in figuring this out.

If I have my heater/blower on then it growls unless I put it on the 3rd or 4th setting. It will do this until the whole car is completely warm.

When the car is warm not much hot air seems to come out of defrost. When I got the car a couple years ago I remember it having a pretty good heater but now it barely keeps the windows defogged.

What I have ended up doing is leaving the blower off, starting car and then let it warm up or I drive trying to cover my breathing so windows don't fog up. Once the car gets warm enough I bump the blower up to level 3 and defrost the windows, it works but it is a pain.

What is most likely wrong? Also how much/what would it take to fix it. I am pretty good at fixing things but I have no experience with heaters/blowers.

Check the heater blower. Pretty easy access under the passenger side dash. Three screws hold the motor and fan on. You gotta unscrew a relay(?) that is screwed onto the motor housing but then you have access to the three screws. One closest to the firewall is a little tough. I believe they are star bit (this is all from memory).

I have a similar problem to this as well. Whenever the air is on, it growls underneath the passenger foot area and is really loud and annoying. I'll have to check this out when I get a chance, thanks Mark.

Just what exactly am I supposed to look for? Just see if it is clogged with dirt and stuff? If I need to replace one of these how much am I looking at and where would be a good place to get them?

Just incase anyone else searches this problem. I just checked my fan under the passenger side dash. Seems as though some rodents took some of my heat pad under my hood and made a home. Just glad i didn't get mouse guts all over me when I turned on my heat! At least my car was being used while I let it sit for a year.

These are words of experience. I killed a whole family when I turned my blower on, lol. I guess it must really spin fast. They didn't get stuck in the wheel or anything, though.
