#113542, "help needed for major swap......"

ok.. first off, please dont post if your not gonna help... i have started this swap, and i intend to finish it... i dont care if people say its not worth it, or if they dont like the idea... just feedback that will give me progression is all i am seeking...

that said...

i am needing solid information for what parts i need to take a 2gen gsx engine that has been stripped of turbo, intercooler, and all piping including exhuast... i am not super familiar with turbo setups so please be detailed.... i have a big 16g i want to install, but i want it to possibly be a 18g or 20g... i have an equal lenght pacesetter header also... from there what do i need??

the swap is.. the 4g63, manual tranny, and all wheel drive drivetrain into a dodge avenger.. i have the gsx donor and the avenger, and have most info i need to get this done and mechanical know how to do it....

i just really need help with the turbo stuff, and exhaust ... like wastegate info, BOV info.. piping info... o2 housing info.. ya know... what would be an ideal setup to make the 16g-18g-20g happy.. and run about 350 or 400 hp, torque..

i would really appreciate help!!!! thanks!!

jason

If you're seriously looking to do this, why are you even looking at the tirbo system NOW? Get it in the car and at least in a startable state, THEN wortry about that. The turbosystem is the least of your concerns.

Hmmm gota agree with Dark here.....do the drivetrain swap, get the engine in....and please tell me you got some sort of standalone or the original ecu/sensors/harneses .....btw for the 2g "x" drivetrain to fit you will need to replace your gas tank with the one from the eclipse...along with the protector....while you are at it if you are planning to put massive power down i would go ahead and add th Magnus Dogbox Transmission.....Mitsu Awd tranies are weak...

Im actualy considering going with a 41ae Tranie if it fits like its sister 41te...dont have it in my manuals....must check (hmmmmm high stall 3600 on this + complete rebuild)

GL though on this....you will need this...hope you dont end up with 2 useless cars

BTW did the DSM have a GM MAF translator(if it was modded probably)? if not i would look into it.....

well, i do have a 97 gsx donor car.. with all wiring and ecu's and everything.

the turbo, and all piping were stripped, thats why i was asking about those parts...

i wanted to get all parts ready to go in so i can just do the swap, and be driving in about 2 weeks from start to finish.

i understand the gas tank must be swapped, along with the entire rear crossmember/suspention, the entire front crossmember/suspention, weld new engine mounts in my car on opposite sides, and get a custom lengthened drive shaft..... no worries on any of that stuff..

like i said just new to turbo world.... and the MAF sensor... that was gone of this car ...

all i got under the hood was the engine and tranny and wiring.. all trubo pieces gone... including complete exhaust, and intake... everything!!...

Perhaps it would be smartest to buy all the parts to make the '97 GSX run again. I'm sure there are plenty of T25's, SMIC, and stock piping floating around to do this. Install this on the donor '97 GSX and see if you can even get the car to run. Then you could shake down the whole system and make sure you have everything installed right. Then you could swap all the applicable parts to the Avenger. It sounds retarded, but its always best to start with two running systems before screwing with them. And I'd throw all deadlines out the window. If you're going to do this, time can't be a factor. There will likely be lots of setbacks, so you'll need permanent alternate transportation.

SOunds about right. Factory turbo cars also use water cooling on their turbos your 16g may or may not have.

WHY?
#1 Just fix the GSX and sell the avenger.
#2 If you must have an avenger body with the gsx parts just SWAP THE BODY, not everything else, when your done you will basically have a GSX with an avenger body, why not just do that.

Its a total waste of time to do what your planning.

Crap just fix the GSX and swap the front clip from the avenger.
The eclipse has much more options for neat hoods/fenders/body kits.

Your way its way,way too much work for what its worth. You will need a custom driveshaft for the rear wheels due to the avenger length difference. and probably have to redo some electrical harnesses becuase of length difference, not to mention taking basically EVERYTHING off the GSX right down to the body panels.
Its a pointless swap. You dont get bragging rights for doing a waste of time swap.

Shit put a V8 in the avenger, its probably easier

this is a useless post as he stated first that if you have nothing to help him then dont post. he already started it. besides how many people would have an AWD avenger? exactly! thats the point. it may be a waste of time but he would have something that no one else has (that we know of)

good luck with everything
