#113377, "2.4 swap questions"

I have been thinking about doing some work to the car and the 2.4 swap is looking more and more interesting. my question is has anyone done this on a 95? I just want to make sure there wouldn't be any problems with the downgraded obd2 shit... My guess is this wouldn't be a problem but I have never worked on a 2.4 so I defer to anyone who has

indeed emoji this shortblock is gunna be the best ive ever built.

skrilla is the godfather of the 2.4L though, we're doing both his and mine in the next coming months.

some stuff...

-modified pt cruiser p/s bracket
-balance shafts
-re-wire injectores
-rotate cam magnet
-custom side motor mount
-custom oil pan
-custom downpipe

its pretty straight forward and i think the motor mount is the hardest thing but after we do two 2.4 swaps in 3 months we will have probably built more motor mounts than we need, so we'll make some kits or something...we'll have to see.

anyway yea, josiah is the first do0d to do the 2.4, he knows way more about it than most people so shoot him a pm emoji

-modified pt cruiser p/s bracket

maybe not necessary

-balance shafts

replace them with a baffle

-re-wire injectores

do that right on the injector sub-harness, cut and soldered wires and cover them with heatshrink

-rotate cam magnet

be very carefull when doing this I tried to put a 2.4 cam in a neon last week, we had to rotate the magnet 90 degres counter-clockwise we did it but the engine never started , don't know why, I did it on another similar setup a few weeks ago and the engine fired on the first try

-custom side motor mount

I found a great solution I will have pictures in 2 weeks

-custom oil pan

use a stratus 2001+ pan they are great

isn't that a nice view emoji

Damn! How did you get the valve cover to say 16 valve DOHC and 2.4. I thought that the 2.4 was only SOHC. That looks sweet as hell. I hope to be pulling that trick eventually emoji (actually doing the swap not just changin Valve covers)

don't get your engines confused
the chrysler 2.4 is a dohc engine like the 420a and neon
unlike the 2.4 mitsubishi 4g64 of the spyder which is a sohc

when we are talking 2.4 swap we are talking about a chrysler 2.4 fitted with a 420a chrysler head

that cover is the stock chrysler 2.4 cover

I don't think I need a crank scrapper I already have a nice baffle system but I'm always open for new idea
the baffle was made to fit flush with the new level of the pan I have a gap around it of 3/4 inch in average it should work very well emoji

as for the oil passage I just tap the hole and put a bolt full of red loctite once the loctite was set and cured I cut the head of the bolt with a cutting wheel i don't remember the exact size but I do remember that the closest tap that I had was an american size

sweet emoji good info on filling that hole, i was wondering what i was going to do with that. also, could you possibly give me some measurements on your oil pan? that would be awesome emoji i know it needs a good chunk cut off and have some alluminum plate welded in im just not sure the depth and all that.

personally, im getting a crankscraper with an oil scattering coating on it, i took out my balance shafts too. your baffle looks good though, good idea using the bolts that held the balance shaft assembly on.

also, you used a stratus oil pump? i was thinking, if someone were to have a stock crank pulley...it wouldnt fit would it? i have a AFX UDP but i was curious because the filter is parellel with the ground on some model oil pumps. use the 2.0 UDP on the 2.4 right?

sorry for all the questions, just seein what does and doesnt work and you've been workin on this thing for some time it seems so you know the ins and outs

When I did the pan I just followed the shape of the sotck pan I had
I cut just under the lowest point to keep the max of thickness
dimensions means nothing here I just tried to do a clean pan

and I cut as deep as I could without touching the space of the oil pickup unit you could see a rib where I stopped

without a UDP you will rub against the oil gallery connecting the pump to the filter

you could see how close my UDP is

Using either the Pt Cruiser or SRT-4/Pt Turbo pump you could do it without a UDP but you will also need to use the matching oil pan
because the filter is on the back of the engine and the oil galleries between the filter and the pump are built right in the pan

werd emoji that pic of the UDP was exactly what i needed

you port that oil pump at all? also, if i were to use say, the srt oil pump...doesnt the oil filter run parellel to the ground? unlike the one you have shown?

what water pump are you using? i just got my srt-4 pump yesterday, i guess it flows a litte more than the older pumps did

oil filter on the 2.4 turbo engine, with the cooler

I used the old water pump I may switch to a srt-4 pump if I could get one at a cheaper price
and the oil pump is not ported

interesting, ive never seen that before, so scratch using the srt pump.

porting the oil pump is relatively easy and especially at the outlet from the pump to block where the 0 ring is, i think it will work to free up some exta psi in the higher rpm's.

good pic emoji

also, did you use a 2gnt MLS headgasket? or a headgasket from a 2.4L? i'd assume they looked exactly the same, even may have the same part number but im not sure.

how does that new tensioner pulley for the srt-4's timing belt work?

all the chrysler 4 engines are using the same mls headgasket except the new 2.4 turbo because this engine has an extra oil gallery
or course the kit are differents but the mls itself are the same

the new tensionner is a mechanical one , spring loaded , with a cam lobe action on it
first you slack the nut in the middle of the pulley
after that you could release the tensionner and place your timming belt
than you turn to pulley to lock the spring in place and you tight the bolt
it's very easy to use

sweet, that thing sounds wayy more user friendly than the old 'you're gunna need a big vise for this' way to do it with the pin style tensioner.

whens the ETA on that thang BTW? i know you've been peicin it together for awhile, the pictures bring me joy emoji

you're gunna have a nice little dodge lotus eclipse turbo imo

Dodge Avenger 2.4T emoji

I want to drop the engine this summer and I want to do it in 2 steps
first put the engine without the turbo system to fully debug everything

and a few weeks later the turbo kit will follow

yea thats the same thing im thinkin...just bolt up the stocker stuff to break it in and not have to worry about fuel cut and tuning and crap like that. then again, i may just run my 16g on there until i save enough for the behemoth turbo (its 1300 bucks emoji) we'll see. hopefully it will be in here in the next 5 months or so

dank!?

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
