#112170, "No Spark and No Fuel"

Yes I did do a search first. Okay here is what happened, I was driving down a freeway and out of know where my rpm's and mph started to drop. I was like wtf. Shut off the car then while I was coasting tried to restart it. No luck, so I just coasted off of the freeway. Got it towed back home. The next day checked for spark, nothing. So I came on here and looked it up. Got some ideas of what it could be so I then started to change things out with another talon that I have, same year and model. Here is what I changed: cam and crank sensors, spark plug wires(even though I have brand new ngk ones), coil pack, ignition relay, fuel relay, checked all my fuses, changed my under hood relays, and changed PCM. Still nothing, though I did get it to start twice. After I changed my under hood relays I went and gave it a try and it almost started with three plugs in (I was checking for spark), so I put the other plug in and it started just fine. I was like, "yes I figured out the problem". Went inside to eat, came back 30 min later no go. And the car does turn over. So I gave up and sent it to a shop, they said I also had no fuel. So I am really not sure what’s going on with it and I have a strange feeling its going to cost me a butt load of money. The car is a 95 ESI manual, and the parts where swapped out of a working 95 ESI auto. My car has only minor mods, intake and cam gears. And it has 240k on it. I have a feeling its some kind of wire issue but I do not have tools for testing that. If anyone has any ideas I would be glad to listen, thanks.

Fuel pump relay? Do you hear the pump prime when you turn the key to the ON position without cranking it over? If so, then it's something between the fuel filter and the rail.

From the symptoms when it died, I would also suspect the battery, but it wouldn't restart if the battery was cashed.

Any CELs?

I thought I heard no priming when I turned my key, but they guy and the shop I took it to said he check for pressure and had none. The battery is okay it works great in my other talon, and no other symptoms that I could tell when it died, although I did have my music up loud. And last year I had my timing all re-done AEM cam gears, new belt, tensioner, water pump, and pulleys. I did have someone turn it over while I was watching my t-belt and it was turning okay and there is no slack on it. I also forgot to mention that a month or so ago my key got stuck in the ignition and wouldn’t turn, this happened a few times throughout the month, some of the times it would turn after 5 or so minutes others it would take up to 40 min for it to turn. I am ready to buy a del sol or some type of honda and wait till I have some alot more cash to buy a dsm again.

Cam gears huh, have you checked the timing to make sure the gears didnt slip? or shear off one of the cam pins?

That's a definite possibility.

You might check for voltage at the proper locations on the fuel pump relay on the firewall. There is another thread around here, recently, with detailed pictures of what you should be getting and where. Not sure what the title is. Search for fuel pump relay. If you're sure it's not the relay, then you might have to consider a new fuel pump. You'd be in luck, if that was the problem, as they're under $150 and easier to dick with than the timing belt.

If the fuel pump was bad would that make it not spark though?

Well I finally found out what it was. There is a large cable that is connected under the air filter (where the stock one would be) and it was all corroded inside. And this happens to supply the fuel and spark with power. Got it replaced and runs great.
