#112059, "IAT sensor destruction WTF!!?"

ok this one is confusing me.
my car keeps chewing through IAT sensors and i cant figure out why.
some just fail outright and dont look any different, but when checked with an ohm meter its out of spec.
still others are utterly destroyed! that little black tip? yeah GONE! so all im left with is 2 bare leads.

i've tried both autozone and advance brands (both with warranties) and each has failed.

any idea guys?
any upgraded ones that are more robust i can switch to?

you think my solid mounts might be causing the failure? (AFX front, Prothane in the other 3)

can i move the sensor down the intake track closer to the filter to alleviate some of the vibration?

i'm back to stock now and cant go turbo until i get stuff straightened out.

Thanks in advance

This excerpt was taken from www.megamanual.com:

Note: A few early installations using the open-cage MAT sensor experienced vibration induced failure of the sensor. The thermistor bulb is supported only by two thin wire legs. These can apparently fatigue and break when installed in high vibration environments, such as occurs when you screw it directly into an intake manifold. Several people solved the problem by "potting" the legs of the thermistor with O2-sensor-safe silicone (most silicone sealer/adhesives destroy O2 sensors, so pay attention!), squeezing it down inside the sensor body but leaving the bulb exposed.

Your running true solid mounts? That sounds like a possability. Backfires can also degrade the IAT. Try moving it to your intake pipe.
