Nope, no problems so far with my AFX UDP. Its been like a month, and my battery seems to be ok still. I have no idea about my alternator though. Yeah, I was also wondering if the UDP would have any effect on charging the battery and alternator, since the diameter is way smaller than the stock one. That's what me and my dad have been worrying about. But there has been one symptom that I have been noticing. Its my system. Everytime I turn it up too loud with the bass, the whole system dies, then turns on again, dies, until I turn down the bass a lil bit. Its like I'm running low on energy that I'm supplying my system. Well, I heard other side effects of putting an UDP were breaking the belts easily. Well, that's about it...

if your alternator belt is loose, it can make the alternator not spin enough to charge the battery while teh engine is running.

you would probably experience a squeel as well. have your battery tested at an autoshop. autozone has done mine for free.....

well i have noticed a sort of squeel. but i havent checked my belt yet. i have been meaning ot do that. i also have a little bit of a system. im thinking that i might need to get a higher amp battery or just take out the system. which im not really into the major audio like i used to be so i might take it out and see how that does. i am going ot have my battery tested i hope today. i iwll let you guys know how it went and my thoughts on it. later

I notice a slight dimming of lights and can hear the heater fan slow a little bit when i am at idle, with or without my system on. I have a brand new alternator and a Optima yellow top battery. Since the alternator will be turning 30% slower, you might have probs at idle like me. It doesn't kill the car or anything, but i will try to keep up the rpm's a litte when at a long light, and that works just fine. It seems like anything under 1000 or 1100 rpm's i notice the dimming. This will be harder on your alternator since its trying to put out gobs of amps at a very slow alternator rpm. This can kill an alternator faily quickly, so be careful. If your going to be at idle for more than a few minutes, keep up the rpm's several hundred rpms to help put less stress on the alt...

I have a system and experience no problems except the dimming of the lights, but sonicyan yours may be because of your amp. your amp has circutry that prevents it from over exerting itself. i have a rockford amp that was doing that to me u just have to find the limit of the amp and try to make it sound good there. but it shouldn't be the udp

this might sound stupid but um do they make another kind of altenator that might not be affected by something like this?

buy a capacitor for your system... their purpose is to prevent dimming lights!

I have a voltmeter in my car even at idle alternator voltage never drops below 12 volt, usually around 12.5. Under load it produces the full 14 volts, don't worry about it at all.
