Hey guys,

Here is the Dyno pulls from the shootout for the NA guys.

Here is mine ... didn't do so well ... but you can tell from the graph that I had some issues (intermittent CPS code, multiple cylinder misfire code)

Here is Mike's dyno ... GREAT F'N NUMBERS. Best part is we just got it running better that morning and there is just barely some 1/2 ass tuning to get it to those numbers. Expect 150+ soon. emoji

Here is Todd's dyno ... GOOD NUMBERS also. Mike and I did some adjustments to Todd's cam gear settings at his request between runs. 1st run ... baseline 0*/0*. 2nd run +4* intake. 3rd run either +8* or +10* intake (don't remember exactly).

Wow. I realize I still have a loooooong road ahead of me. I just finished the hi-comp rebuild and though I've got positive SOTP dyno results, in looking at what the resident experts are pulling down, I can see that I shouldn't get my hopes up too much for the monster pull. emoji

Way to go fellas! Someday I'll get up to where you are right now! emoji

Tuning the cam gears gave me a huge power increase in the mid range. With tuning, I did make more power up top, not much but it did.

As you can see, I didn't loose power anywhere at all, but nothing happened at 6500 rpms and up. (no loss, no gain)

My setting were 0 intake/0 exhaust first run, +4 intake advance second run, +8 intake advance 3rd run. The car idles just fine with Crane #10 cams and +8 degrees advance on the intake cam.

The graphs are not overlayed, but you can see where the cams and ported head make a difference in the torque curves. Mine starts off higher but still noticeably drops off, but not as bad as stock! Mike's doesn't start off as high, but just stays flat.

That's a good idea actually. Thura could you just do an overlay of Mike's best torque run and my best torque run? Both on the same graph, with the same scale? That would be perfect for comparison sake. HP would be nice too, but I think comparing torque curves would yield more information.

I wouldn't think it's more than 180hp, 190 sounds a bit optimistic.

Yeah I need to definately get some tuning done to the WOT fuel maps, those runs were done on a pure guess, based off the low throttle fuel I vaguely set while riding around with Thura and the datalogger.

After looking at my codes on the way back to Houston I was running around with the following codes ... Intermittent Cam Position Sensor, Cylinder 1 Misfire, Cylinder 2 Misfire, Cylinder 4 Misfire, Random Cylinder Misfire. I can't complain about the dyno numbers for me with all that misfire.

Here is the Torque Graph. Todd's curve is in red and Mike's in blue.

Thanks Thura! emoji

That graph is just what I wanted.

Look at that, that ported head and more agressive cams sure make a difference in the top end! That is very valuable information!

So what's the next step for you guys? If you're putting out 180-190 at the crank, can you change out the cams for more power while maintaining streetability? Any plans to bump compression more? How much more power do you think is possible without power adders before the car is too much to keep tuned on the street? I'm curious...

First off I need exhaust. That dyno pull was with stock piping and a GS-T muffler, header and high flow cat, but cat-back needs to be done.

Then computer would be nice, but the subcontractor for AFX doesn't seem to be movnig too fast on Todd's...

After that some long overdue suspension, for looks and better launching at the track and more fun driving on the street.

Then bottom end time, higher compression, probably 11.5:1, maybe 12.5:1, what bottom end is still undecided, 2.2L? 2.4L? probably not staying 2.0L, but possibly. A new unmilled head will go on then, full valvetrain same cams, undercut valves would be a nice addition, stock size.

Somewhere along the way there needs to be a limited slip conversion done. The stock clutch seems to be doing fine at the hp level, so I'll hold until I overpower it(not likely soon) or burn it out.

As I was talking with Thura, we both do the big stuff first, so the cars in need of some minor finishing touches and some rewiring, nothing major.

That's what's running through my head at the moment.

Next step for me? Run the car with the new cams and cam settings at NED where I can run some good 1/4 mile times.

Then, hope an AFX computer exists, otherwise I may have to do some searching to find another tuning option that won't cost $1800 emoji

If you don't mind, could you enlighten an all-motor no0b a bit? Thanks!

I've got a 4-2-1 into the stock cat>stock piping>crush bent into offset MagnaFlow right now. I think I'll tackle the motor first myself.

Is there any concern over them stopping production of these? I may have to order one sooner than I expected! :o

My achilles heel. emoji I'd love to get some rollers/stoppers/bouncers, but I'd rather snag some more power first. emoji

Are you guys still running stock 9.6:1CR?! I just did the 10.5:1 and was thinking you all-motor guys had done this long ago! Also, are you saying you run cams on an otherwise stock head? Why would you want an unmilled head? Compression issues? Finally, what's the benefit of undercut valves in relation to the usual 3-5 angle job?

I just got a new PT Cruiser clutch for mine, so I've got about another 140K to go before I mess with that. emoji

rewiring? Sounds like some fun. I still have green Army duct tape labeling all my sensors from rebuild time. emoji

One last thing! What is meant by "NED?" TIA!

It just kept getting pushed back for one reason or another, I would get the stock cat out of there, the cams much appreciated that restriction being removed on mine.

>Is there any concern over them stopping production of these?
>I may have to order one sooner than I expected! :o

I don't think there is a rist of the production being stopped, but the programmer gary pays to break code and do the reprogramming seems to be taking his sweet time with Todd's

>My achilles heel. emoji I'd love to get some

Yeah every time I want to lower the car and give it a better stance and improve traction, I spend more money on the engine. At least my suspension only has 40k on it.

>Are you guys still running stock 9.6:1CR?! I just did the

I'm above stock C.R. Todd is not. I'm in the area of 10.5:1 due to a milled head, but the combustion area has been cleaned up a little removign material, so without CC'ing the head I can't give you an exact number.

I ran cams on a stock head for a while, up until a few weeks ago. What I'm saying is that with a rebuild I don't want a majorly milled head to raise compression, I want compression to be raised because of pistons not milling. I would then have that head ported polished with the 3 angle valve job.

>rewiring? Sounds like some fun. I still have green Army duct
>tape labeling all my sensors from rebuild time. emoji

Yeah I want to get wiring from painless and color code everything so I can identify wires by sight, not by tracing them down. And I am refering to the extra wiring I have done, in the form of switches, gauges, etc., not any stock wiring.

>One last thing! What is meant by "NED?" TIA!

New England Dragway - Todd's home turf.

hmm. your gray RS is killing mine, Michael. mine running on just the autozone special short ram intake, for now atleast... I think the exhaust is showing signs of some rust, few months I give it before I get bored with my credit card.
I wouldn't break 16 at epping's drag strip... probably not even come close. "NED", as Todd put it, is a ~2hr trip from my area of NH. I know a guy that's done some low 16s down there with his '99 GS. but, hey, if Todd wants to install some engine upgrades in my car, take a trip up here! emoji

heh, I gotta work most of the week... and I live across the river from springfield, VT... so it's roughly, without exceeding the speedlimits more than 15mph for the most part, it's around an hour to concord for me, then ~40 minutes south east to epping... the mapquest.com route (wow, I agree on a mapquest route for once!) says 1h50m, but that doesn't count the traffic getting down there. I got wednesday off, but I'll be spending most of that day sanding the other drum on my car. Then I hope it's clear painting day on friday.
