Ok i just thought i would post this because I had a horrible time trying to do this until i figured it out. What u want to do is take electrical tape and go around the area u want to cut 2 times around the hose with the electrical tape extremely tightly wrapped. Then go the opposite way around your electrical tape 7-10 times tightly wrapped. Next you need a chop saw with a metal cutting blade i cannot stress this enough any other way will not work it frayes the stainless steel, belive me i have tried. Cut right in the middle of your electrical tape with the chop saw. Then slowly remove the second layer of electrical tape. Leave the first layer there. Take your AN fitting and tilt it to one side, get half of the side of the AN fitting on the hose and gently move it up until all of the hose is inside the AN fitting. This part of the AN fitting, the one that goes over the hose, is left hand thread (counter clockwise) so you have to turn it counter clockwise for it to go onto the hose. Once it is in there enough where it wont fall off push it against something solid so the hose goes into the fitting until it is supposed to stop. Now take the other end of the AN fitting the part that goes into the hose itself and push it into the hose, once its in enough push in and turn this fitting clockwise so it begins to thread into the outer fitting. Once it is threaded and is going in stop and take the oouter fitting and start to turn it counter clockwise until it is tight. Then hold the outer fiting while you turn the inner fitting clockwise until it locks into place all the way and you cannot turn it anymore. It should go all the way to the bottom and touch the outer fitting. Pull on the fitting it should budge at all.

1) You use a bandsaw to make precision metal cuts. Not a chopsaw.

2) I can't for the life of me figure out why the hell you would EVER want to cut an AN fitting. The whole point of AN fittings is their beveled end that seals perfectly without the need for teflon or o-rings.

3) As a general rule, if something is WAY harder than it seems like it should be, you're probably doing it wrong.

1st. Bandsaw really?? Nope cant actually it frays the line right when its finishing the cut because the blade is dragging and pulling the stainless steel, tried it several times. Chop saw is the best way.
2nd Cut an AN fitting when did i ever say cut an AN fitting???
3rd As a general rule if you cant read and you dont know what YOUR doing/saying you shouldnt be critical of others.

And its not hard once you figure out how to do it thats why I posted this so others didnt have to go through what I went through.

I used a bandsaw before, and even went as far to use a bench grinder to cut the lines.

I tried it with the bandsaw and was not successful i think the chop saw is the way to go in my opinion. If its easier to use the bandsaw then go for it.

You all need to open your eyes and use common sense. Wrap with a few wraps of tape and use BOLT CUTTERS with performance shops use when they sell you a length. Any other way listed above is a joke and waste of time. I have done quite a few with cheap 40.00 bolt cutters and i have never had a probem with one fitting.

This is a discussion forum. We got 4000 something members and everyone has their way of doing it. You post up your way, and we say "Hey cool, I'll have to try that next time, this is how I've always done it."

And even if we never take your advice on braided AN lines, the chopsaw idea or whatever may come in handy for cutting custom steel braided brake or clutch lines someday.

heres what i do, i get my hose, i stick the ends in my nose and twirrle to get a good coating of snot, then i take some pipe tape and wrap that really tight... next i get my McGyver swiss army knife and use the really sharp serated saw blade and cut thru the S/S covering just down to the hose. remove that part of the covering from the hose, then take the exposed rubber hose end and stick it in the microwave to heat it up and make it really soft... then i use my goerge forman grill to cook the ends off and then i use my bench vise to push the AN ends on. and to make sure there in place i use a 16 pennie nail right thru the ends to hold them secure!!!

thats the way to do it......

Do you want every newb that comes here thinking a chop saw is the best and possibly the only way to cut a simple braided hose?

Easy and cheap way to do it without a chop saw or buying bolt cutters is to wrap with duct tape, stick it in a vise to keep the cut straight and the cut using a sharp hacksaw. It comes out clean and it takes about 10 seconds to cut. Ive been doing it this way for 15 years, works fine.
