I just finished installed a manual oil pressure gauge on my car and when i unscrewed the pressure switch from the back of the block a little bit of coolent rolled out? After putting all the fittings in for the gauge, i had to take them back out (messed up something) and more coolent came out. Right before starting the gauge install, i filled the engine with coolent. When i got this car (month ago) the head gasket was blown. I took the engine apart and replaced the head and headgasket and just got eveything back together. So i believe that is what it might been from, But it has me concerned. I checked the oil and i dont see anything wrong with it and even drained it and nothing. What do you guys think?? I know its coolent cuz i looked at it closely and it has a greenish tint to it and smells like it lol

My guess is it was probably from when you did the head gasket. But you said you drained the oil and no coolant came out with the oil. That is odd. I personally would probably get some cheap Advanced Auto brand oil, fill her up, let her run and idle for like 10 minutes and drain that and see what happens. You could always use a block tester as well after you get the engine nice and hott to see if there is coolant in the system.

Is it possible that a previous owner accidentally installed the oil pressure switch in a port that is open to the water jacket? I believe that we have one port (normally plugged) that is open to the water jacket and has a similar size to the port for the oil pressure switch.

Wow. Never heard of anyone ever installing the OPSU into a freeze plug location before. There should be nothing but oil coming out of that location.

I don't mean a freeze plug. There is a 1/4" NPT threaded plug in the back of the block. It connects to the water jacket (I just removed it on my spare block and ran a wire up to the deck).

yeah there is a 1/4 plug in the back of the block so you can drain the coolant out of the cylinder area of the block. Our oil pressure sending unit is 3/8 NPT though....wont fit without an adapter.

some of the older blocks have an extra port near the OPSU port that is for the cooling jacket. I've never seen why it's there but it is. I belive that it's the same size.
