I'm in the middle of a clutch install on my 92 Eclipse and I am re-using the flywheel. Do I NEED to have it resurfaced? It has 2 grooves around it from the pressure plate rivets, but it doesn't look real bad. What do you guys think? Please respond asap, I want to drive it tonight... it's been a few months... tia

should be fine for now.. but on your net clutch you might want to get it fixed.. or pickup a lightened aftermarket one.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll just slap it back together tomorrow, the 1g transaxle is a piece of cake to get on/off. I appreciate the help. I'm anxious as hell to find out about the damage to my 2gnt tomorrow.

I think for right now, you should be fine with the resurfaced flywheel. However, once you put out a lot of horsepower, it's typically not recommended because the flywheel can break on you. I'm not saying it will happen, but by resurfacing, you increased that possibility. Just something to think about. I know an aftermarket lightened flywheel isn't cheap.

It's quite expensive actually. I think I saw one on machv.com for like $450... ouch! I'll be fine with this one

No you should resurface the flywheel when yoiu do a clutch unless the surface is very smooth in which case I would say you can get away with just an orbital ander and lightly sanding the surface. MuBut if any grooves you should get that machined down.

You are correct Michael; I misread the post. When reusing the stock flywheel with a new clutch, it's often recommended that it is resurfaced a little. However, if someone were to have it resurfaced to "lighten" the flywheel, that's when it's not recommended. My bad.
