The CEL will flash when there is a misfire but only if it damaging the catalytic converter, so if you have a small misfire it might not blink. I always stick with the NGK's BKR6E is the stock heat range. If you are boosting or spraying go with BKR7E one range colder plugs. And imo copper is better plug to use, but thats just my opinion.

I've never had a set of the ngk's go bad, I always just changed them at the proper interval.
