#10952, "stock muffler won't come out! help! (See pic)"

Well, everything was going ok.. I jacked the car up, I unbolted the stock muffler... and then, when i tried to pull it out, it got stuck. like this:

It's a bad pic.. but basically, there isn't enough space between the axle and the bottom of the trunk for it to come out. I jacked the car from the driver's side, around the middle. Is there some other place I should be jacking the car up from? Or do i just have to find a way to get the car really high off the ground? Because it looks like i *might* be able to clear it if I had more space to work with.

(oh yea, on a side note.. whoever owned this car before replaced the stock exhaust before selling it... because 2 bolts are missing from the bolts that keep the cat back and muffler suspended)

Do you have a sway bar? LET IT DOWN! There are 4 bolts 10mm (I think) and there will be plenty of room to get the muff out. My sister's GS was a pain and then I noticed the sway bar and unbolted it and the muff hit the ground. If you don't, then cut the biotch!

Shit is all apart. Typical...

Bump

haha, i was tempted to just rip that ish out.. but then i figured that if the stock muff wasn't coming out.. then the gst muff probably wasn't getting in.

I guess i'll really just have to try disassembling things tomorrow. muahahaa. Unless someone has a better way?

I got a better look at your pic and it looked like the same prob I had. Undo the sway bar and the f*cker will come right on out. Sounds stupid but it works like a charm. Make sure to unbolt both sides so the bar can just swing down. Good luck!

In your other post, I mentioned that you needed to use another jack and jack up the hub unit. It will allow you to maneuver the muffler up into the wheel well and get it out.

You dont have to do any of that man, whenever I put mine on and took it off, all I had to do was jack up that corner and turn the muffler to the left so that the pointy part of the flange points downward. If you look at the bottom of the trunk (i think thats what it is, but you know what Im talking about im sure) you will see a slight dent that goes downwards. You can move the flange through there and it should come out easily. Just do the same when you install it. Its really easy once you figure it out, hell I sat there and cussed at it for about 10 min and then I just decided to study the area and found the answer in about 5. Just email me if you have any more probs man

Mine did the same thing. I was able to get it off with a small crow bar. Took me like 25mins to finally figure this out and get it out.
