#109457, "Is it Blown??"

The other day I fell into a pot hole and dented my oil pan...made it about a couple miles down the highway and the car just shut off.

First thing I figured was electrical or timing belt...both checked out ok.

So I tried to crank the motor over and all it did was try to engage the started but nothing happened. I checked the oil there was NONE!!

So I get towed back to my families car dealership...and found the dent in the oil pan..fill her up with oil and still doesn't crank over.
I let the car sit for two days and try again to crank over...the motor will turn over a little bit and stop. I'm confused I thought when you seize a motor it wouldn't move at all. it will turn over about half a crank and stop every time but will not fire up.

What do you guys think??

~Russ

Well I have no Check Engine Lights....But I just don't have a engine...LOL

I would say that maybe your oilpan dented far enough to hit your crankshaft but that highly unlikely.
Id say since you had no oil, that something gaveout brokeoff and is now preventing everything from working : /

It almost sounds vapor locked. Was any oil leaking? Also if it was on a public road you have a very high chance of being able to make the city pay for the damages. A friend of mine broke her neon on a pothole on a public road and the city bought her a new neon. I know they pay for rims and stuff. I would call your city office and see what they say and if they say they will pay for it, take it to a shop and have them fix it and make sure they write out details on what happened so you can prove the pothole cause it, if thats the case.

Sounds a lot like you ran out of oil and seized the engine. Where did the oil go? Any puddles? Drop the oil pan and check the bearings/shavings.

Yes, it will not turn over, and turn over, depending on what/how bad it seized and the battery power etc.

its not vapor locked. Learn what vapor lock is first before suggesting it.

You lokced the motor up, we established that in chat the other day. Question is, what are you going to do with it now? emoji

If it were me and if I had a job id get me a 2.2 knife edged crank, 10.5 pistons and Stage 2 crowers, and the other essetials for this to work and be more than happy with that emoji. But since my car is running just fine I have no excuse to take out "the savings" xD

we don't need "knife edged" cranks. our cars use a positive pressure oiling system, not a splash oiling system. The crank doesn't pass through the oil in the sump.

when problems arises Haynes always helps emoji

2 Engine rotates but will not start.
sorta like your problem

fuel tank empty
check your terminals
leaking injectors, bad fuel pump, bad pressure regulator etc
fuel not reaching fuel rail
igniton compenents damp or damaged, maybe oil got in them : /
bad spark plugs
some wires messed up in the starting curcuit
loose distributor or crank angle sensor is changing ignition timing
and a possibly bad coil
another might be that your battery is bad you say that it stops when you crank

might not help much but check that out
imo, I think you tore something apart while driving around with no oil, I mean comon, its like sticking your wang in a paper shredder, the outcome isnt going to be good xD
but not really your fault, but umm ya id say take off the oil pan and see if you find anything that isnt supposed to be.

Anyone have a garage I can work in with them..this could be a fun project? I would do it at my family's dealership but I can't get time in there. If I can find a garage that would free up more money to use mabey to throw a turbo on it.

I guess I deserved that. I just googled vapor lock... The only reason I said that is because I listened to a complete idiot. The kid I bought the car from claimed the car ran without oil and said he thought at first it was vapor locked. And well vapor lock has nothing to do with oil. Its fuel. Sorry for my stupidity. I am just trying to learn here.
