ok I've used search but the answer I wanted wasn't there, my belts are squealing when I turn on the A/C and turn the wheel, I've checked the tension and they're tightened to about a half an inch of movement allowed between the two farthest pulleys, I've checked them for oil or coolant or anything and they're clean, they are pretty new belts (about a month old), the squeal goes away when I rev the engine up to about 4K RPM I really have no idea why they are still squealing even after I tightened them and all that, I normally wouldn't mind it but its downright embarrassing when I'm driving down the street and go around a corner and my car squeals. so please if you have any info on why it might still be doing it let me know.

1/2 an inch of play? that's too much. tighten it to about 1/4 inch of deflection.

Fixed! thank you! I've always heard half an inch from the locals around here so I thought tightening it more would make it more liable to snap...but thanks! you've saved me from the huge headache I get around every corner! emoji

they'll still squeal if they're too loose. I know from experience.
