well i ran a scan and my car threw up the p1390 code indicating i skiiped a tooth or more which is understandable because i have adjustable cam gears and my head was milled but my question is there any way to adjust timing where it should be around by simply removing the valve cover and adjusting the cam gears or how can I go about doing it for optimum performance?I dont have the stock cam gears and these ones have no marks for the original timing plus taking the crank pully off is always th biggest pain in the arse so I think I just have to go about it this way?plz input.

So, if I am understanding your question correctly, you want to know if there is a way to know what the valve timing should be if you have no timing marks on your cam gears. Is this correct?

If there are no timing marks on your cam gears, how did you install them correctly? (No, I'm not being a smart a**)

thats exactly what im trying to say,..ok so let me get my facts straite so there's no confusion. I think I need to get a long srewdriver or extention and pull the#1 spark plug,insert the screwdriver then take off valve cover and manualy crank the crank to put #1 piston to TDC going on the intake stroke,I'll set the intake cam to open the intake valves precisely when the piston starts decending down to BDC,as it sucks in air and on goes the compression stroke right then all valves should be shut,as the piston heads down for the exhaust stroke I'll have the exhaust cam open the exhaust valves precisely as it starts its decent back up the TDC from BDC for the last stroke.that should be timed good enough after that but then again theres no threads i can find to sapport that this will work the way I intend for a turbo 420a?maybee ill have the exhaust valve open a little prematurally?Eather way i should be safe since i'am doin it manually and not cranking it from the starter.

Top dead center is when that cylinder is firing. So it should go all the way down from the power stroke, then exhaust opens at BDC when it starts to go back up. Around TDC it changes from exh. to intake open, but Im not sure when. Be careful here, its easy to bend valves like that.

your correct but tdc could also meen the end of the exhaust stroke and begining of the intake stroke which is where im thinkin im gonna start the adjustments.thx for the input though.

Top dead center is always referenced as cylinder #1 in the firing position (at the top of the compression stroke, valves closed).
