So, I know blue smoke is burning oil. I have 1600 miles on the new motor at 10.5:1 I decided to take my first journey out of town on the new motor and drove to the next town over about 45 miles. The car drove perfectly and never had a hickup. When I got off of the freeway, I slowed down to the stop sign. When I took off, poof! A huge cloud of blueish white smoke came out of the tailpipe. (my heart sank) I drove it a little ways up the road and it continued to smoke. I parked the car and let it cool down and when I started it up, no more smoke, got on it hard a couple of times and still no smoke. So, I got back on the freeway to drive home. On the way home I downshifted and got on it a few times just to see if I was smoking or anything. I saw no smoke at all. I got off of the freeway again when I got home, and POOF! A huge cloud of smoke again just like before. I drove home and got on it a few times and this time it didn't smoke so bad. Now, the car blows blueish smoke when I shift gears while getting on it hard. I don't understand why it would smoke so bad getting off of the freeway like that after a trip of 45 miles. I can get on the freeway and get off at the next exit, and I don't smoke at all. Any ideas?

Does it smoke immediately after application of heavy vacuum, e.g. during or after engine braking?

It doesn't smoke in town, just after being on the freeway for a while. It smokes immediately after heavy vacuum after engine braking. When you take off, it will smoke like crazy, then it will clear up. I do have an oil catch can from the pcv, could that be an issue? Thanks.

Nah. Sounds more like ring seal or valve stem seals.
Do a compression test and post the numbers.

What he said.
Worn out valve stem seals can allow oil to get into the combustion chamber during high vacuum situations such as idling. When you get on it, you burn all the oil residue out before it clears up.
Did you do anything to the head during your rebuild?

Yeah, like rebuilt the entire thing. New seals and everything, fel pro all the way. It doesn't ever smoke unless I drive for a while on the freeway, then after I slow to a stop and then get on it. If I just take a quick run on the freeway, then downshift to a stop, it will not smoke. So, I can downshift and slow the car down from like 70mph and then stop, but when I get on it, it won't smoke, but like I said, a trip for over 30 miles on the freeway will do it.

Hey like the others mentioned but it sounds like something is up with your head. I would start there because that is the only main access point besides damaged interior parts. take the cover off and take a gander at things there. head may require a 3 angle valve job if you didn't do it when you rebuilt the engine.
