any body ever seen this before?


now, i get bronze valve guides.
but bronze valve seats?

i thought id heard that people would harden their valve seats not make them softer?
anybody know a reason for it?
oly reason i could think of would be if your using titanium valves and dont want to mess them up, but seriously.

Thats exactly the reason. Bronze (old-school) and newer copper based metals (think CuBe, Trojan, Ampco) are often used in race heads with Ti valves to protect the valves - the greater investment. They maintain a good seal against the valve as well as conduct heat away.

i cant see any pics but i do know that the ti valves get the ass kick from hitting the hardend seats so that would make sence to me the run the softer seat with the ti valves and like mentiuoned above it should creat a good seal also.

ANYWAY . . . lol
anybody have a CNC Lathe, or have acess to one?
i was reading about people doing the valve guides out of CuBe and most people that did them just did them on a lathe at home.
once yu work out the coding for it it should be pretty simple to reproduce them over and over again.
and once you have one you could do it in any metal you wanted.

now the valve seats would be a bit more difficult to do homebrew style, so i was gonna talk to my race shop machinist here for some more input and research.
