Does anyone here run high compression on their nt? What spark plug do you use, and what gap?
I'm so desperate, I already regapped my plugs five times in the last week. Before, I had the NGK BKR5ES-11 gapped at 0.030" and the idle was at least decent. Now I decided to switch to the stock NGK BKR6E-11 since I figured stock heat range would be safer. I tried gapping 0.030", 0.032" 0.034", 0.036", 0.038". Not in that exact order...I'm starting to wonder if my plugs are now bad, or am I totally off on the gapping? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. BTW, the center electrodes of the plug already look black after less than 500 miles of driving. Are they bad? Thanks.

Agreed. If your plugs are already fouled after only 500 miles, i think your problem may lie elsewhere.

Ya I used 0.050 stock and it was fine with the NGK BKR5E-11, but now with the ported and milled head, I can't run anything bigger than 0.038" and it seems like no matter what I do, I havea bad idle. I might just go back to the original 0.030" gap with the "5" series plugs that RRE put in.

hey..still having spark plug problems huh?
Is your car sounding like its "muffled" or just not sounding right?
If you have an a/f meter, does it read erratically i.e. goes way rich all the time or way lean all the time?
It may indeed be a bad plug. I've went through a few plugs that were the wrong heat range and those were the symptoms (specially the change of tune from the engine sound).
hope this helps.

Well, my car idles like it has cams. It's always done that, but after changing the plugs, the idle fluctuation is even worse. It will jump around from 600 to 900 rpm, and if I tap the gas, it will tend to steady out around 800. But then it starts jumping up and down again. If I turn on the A/C, it usually smooths it out though. Also, sometimes, when stopped in Drive (automatic), the car will shake and kinda want to move forward (I can feel it pulling). Maybe I should go back to the 5 heat range even though I have a milled head? I have 10.6:1 compression. Thanks.
