#108523, "Finding a shop to install my GST muffler"

I did search but nothing came up. Basically I just got a GST muffler today and I figured I'd call a nearby shop and to see how much they would charge to put it on for me. However, after calling about four different ones, I'm beginning to realize that most are reluctant to install a part that is not their own, let alone one that is not their own and also happens to be used. For those of you who brought your cars to a shop to have your gst muffler bolted on, where did you go?

And by the way I have neither a place nor time to put it on myself, I wish I did but unfortunately this is not an option for me, so please don't tell me to just do it myself.

show up, find someone not at the counter or with a customer and tell them you need a cat back installed, tell them you are willing to pay CASH.

money in hand talks louder, especially to the young High school or college kid.

Definitely cash in hand is the best thing. If they have the time, anyone would probably do it since its cash it will all be under the table with no taxes.

Thanks for the responses. Well after going to two more "chain" muffler shops in person and still getting turned down ("We don't install customer parts, nobody does..." claimed one a-hole), I ended up going to some small private garage nearby and they had no problem putting the muffler on for me. I'm pretty sure I was overcharged for it, but beggars can't be choosers, right?

But it was worth it, the muffler looks and sounds awesome, in a non-ricer sort of way.

If you paid anything for that job you over-paid.
Seriously, just the muffler section? 5 mins, TOPS. You can't be that busy; It's only THREE bolts 2 on the pipe one for the hanger. I don't think you even need to jack up the car...

I once had Meinke weld on an exhaust tip to my stock muffler. The guy charged $10 and I was on my way. Most of the small exhaust shops should be able to help ya. It helps to have cash when you talk to them. Most likely its done as a tip not as a job.

If the flange is still connected to the gst exhaust you can cut your stock exhaust off at the flange with a cut-off disk and drill. Then bolt it up w/ new bolts. done.
